A Note From the President

BizStarts Explores Relationship with The Commons

Mike Lovell, President of Marquette University and board member of BizStarts, presented an overview of the newly launched Commons at our September Board meeting.  It will be a meeting spot for students from 21 colleges and universities in Southeast Wisconsin to collaborate in creating new companies.

BizStarts is exploring a process whereby those entrepreneurs who offer the most likelihood of success in the marketplace could receive direct assistance from BizStarts, including an invitation to present at the BizStarts Investor Forum.

That Forum is the most collaborative investment forum in Southeast Wisconsin giving the students an opportunity to garner investment capital for their innovative technology and enterprises.

BizStarts Featured Company:    AccessibleWear

Owners Lisa Brodacz and Neil Sherman are on a mission that hits close to home for many of us:  helping individuals of all ages with ability challenges retain their personal dignity and dressing independence as well as their fashion sense.

AccessibleWear is a unique clothing and accessories store that specializes in adaptive clothing.  They offer many clothing options, from magnetic and Velcro closures to open-back shirts for individuals with upper body mobility limitations due to shoulder surgery, mastectomy or paralysis.  In addition, they carry a full line of pants from elastic designer jeans to wheelchair friendly styles.  The store has a designer on staff who works with customers, performing basic alterations and more complex clothing adaptions.

They are a stand-alone store that features a wheelchair friendly floor design, larger fitting rooms, spacious bathroom and a relax area for your comfort.  They pride themselves on providing a "feel good" shopping experience that gives customers an opportunity to see, touch and try on their clothing choices.

Located at 11045 W. National Avenue in West Allis, AccessibleWear is more than a

business - Lisa and Neil are truly committed to providing a personal and attentive experience and serving those in the community with their unique products.

BizForge Resource Hub's ReadyReference:

If a business/entrepreneur has developed a product or service that needs to be further researched, they will often engage a university for a sponsored research agreement. The university may require certain types of agreements in addition to the Sponsored Research Agreements (such as Material Transfer Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements or Option Agreements.) Universities are increasingly encouraging their faculty to commercialize research by offering them a portion of the revenue it generates.
