Del Prado Now Open to Two-Way Traffic

As you have likely noticed, as of Tuesday all lanes of Del Prado are now open and two-way traffic has commenced. Final details on the street will be installed during the next few weeks and we will provide updates as we learn about them.

Please keep Del Prado in mind as you are traveling through Dana Point - there is plenty of on-street parking, gorgeous new landscaping features and lots of businesses open for business and ready to accommodate you.

Also, please mark your calendar for the upcoming Del Prado Art
Walk, which will take place on Saturday, October 17th from 1-4pm. In celebration of Arts & Humanities month, enjoy  local artwork from over 40 artists and live music, paired with  special offerings at businesses located along Del Prado.

To celebrate the opening of Del Prado to two-way traffic,  Bonjour Café is offering a special discount of 15% off your order. The offer is good Monday through Friday starting Monday, October 4th and continuing to Friday October 16th.  No coupon necessary, just tell the staff you are here for the "Thank Goodness its Open" Del Prado discount.

Assemblymember Bill Brough Honors Jorge & Maria Olamendi as the 73rd District Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Photo: David Bro, Orange County Register
Assemblymember Bill Brough will honor Jorge & Maria Olamendi for their extraordinary contributions to the community, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Jorge & Maria have shared (with the community) their traditional Mexican cooking, by creating a bespoke blend of flavors that draw many to their establishment. The restaurant invites you to become a part of the Olamendi family, not only through their cuisine, but with the memories they share in photographs that line the walls.

"The month of September represents Hispanic Heritage Month in which we as a community acknowledge the contributions, history, and culture of generations of Hispanic Americans. Southern California, especially the 73rd District, is deeply woven with Hispanic culture that has shaped the history of California. Jorge & Maria generously share their heritage with us and I am deeply grateful for their contributions as a small business to our community," - said Brough.

Each year Americans recognize Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15. It is a time to celebrate the histories and cultures of Americans whose families came from Spain, Mexico, and South America. It is also a time to acknowledge the many contributions by Hispanic Americans to the United States.

Jorge & Maria Olamendi established Olamendi's Mexican Cuisine in 1973. Its menu features delicious and traditional meals that were crafted by their families throughout generations. The cuisine is individual, authentic, and effortless; giving the Olamendi's their renowned reputation. Situated along Pacific Coast Highway, Olamendi's offers colorful architecture and emanates cultural heritage as you walk through the door. Olamendi's Cuisine is woven into the history of Southern California.

You are invited to help the Olamendi family celebrate this wonderful achievement at Olamendi's on Wednesday, October 14th at 4pm. Assemblyman Bill Brough will be on-hand to present Jorge & Maria with a certificate and we have a feeling that some Olamendi's Tequila might be involved :)

Member Spotlight: 2nd Hand Treasures
Who doesn't love discovering a gem at a bargain price? 2nd Hand Treasures owners Ziad Mahshi and Helen Chade-Mahshi love the hunt and share their unique finds at their Doheny Village resale shop. Offering an eclectic mix of furniture and home décor, the couple offers antique as well as contemporary furnishings, collectables, artwork, lighting and jewelry. Since 2011, loyal area customers have received exceptional service, value and a continual variety of merchandise, making 2nd Hand Treasures the City of Dana Point's September's Business of the Month.

Please provide a brief history of your business:
We opened our business in 2011. We researched the business for about ten years while we worked our corporate jobs. We had always wanted an entrepreneurial venture, so when the space opened, we jumped on the opportunity.

Why did you join the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce?
The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce supports the local business community, so we felt it was important to join. We feel supported by the Chamber.

In what areas of the Chamber are you involved?
We have worked with the Dana Point Chamber to create a voice amongst the merchants in Doheny Village about the specific challenges we have in this area, and to impact progress and change within this community.

Can you tell us a fun fact about your business that most people wouldn't know?
At one time, we were considering opening a coffeehouse. But then we started exploring the resale market and loved its creativity and ever-changing nature. Ziad loves antiques. Helen loves casual, beach-style furniture. Our combined tastes create an eclectic look that customers seem to enjoy.

Do you have any piece of advice for new businesses owners?
Be patient. Sometimes the results you're looking for take longer than you anticipate. Honesty, consistency and good customer service are very important.
