Stay Informed: New Health Care Reform Website Gives Employers Tailored Information
Article from CalChamber

The White House announced the launch of a new website to help employers get specific information on the Affordable Care Act.

According to the White House Blog, the new site includes a web-based tool that allows employers to get tailored information on how the health law may affect them based on their business' size, location and plans for offering health benefits to their workers next year.

The site is designed to ensure that business owners get comprehensive health care information and easy-to-use tools such as:
  • A timeline of key implementation dates
  • Information about the SHOP Marketplaces and small business tax credits
  • Resources to help calculate a business's number of full-time equivalent employees or determine if the coverage the business already offer meets the law's minimum value standards
'Job Killer' Bill Expands Discrimination Litigation
Each year the California Chamber of Commerce releases a list of "job killer" bills to identify legislation that will decimate economic and job growth in California. The CalChamber will track the bills throughout the rest of the legislative session and work to educate legislators about the serious consequences these bills will have on the state.

A California Chamber of Commerce-opposed "job killer" bill that hampers California employers' ability to conduct business and unfairly subjects them to costly litigation will be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee soon.

SB 404 (Jackson; D-Santa Barbara) makes it virtually impossible for employers to manage their employees and exposes them to a higher risk of litigation by expanding the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) to include a protected classification for any person who is, perceived to be, or associated with an individual who provides medical or supervisory care to a listed family member.
