As professionals our lives can be business 24/7, but it's important for us to get to know YOU as a person, member and leader in the community.

This month, we're featuring Dana Point Auto Service. Dana Point Auto Service has been a member of the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce for over 40 years and was just named the 2013 Business of the Year! We sat down with owner Richard Deffenbaugh to get the inside scoop about him, his auto shop and what he thinks about the Chamber.

1. Can you please tell us a brief history of your business?
I created a business in Dana Point in 1969 at the age of 22 after signing a lease with the Atlantic Richfield Company. I joined the Dana Point Chamber in 1971 and in 1986 remodeled the Richfield into an AM/PM. I then moved Dana Point Auto to the building behind A's Burgers and I am still there today!

2. Why did you join the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce?
I joined the Dana Point Chamber in 1971 because I wanted to unite the residents of Dana Point with the local business community.

3. In what areas of the Chamber are you involved?
I am currently on the Board of Directors. I am the Chair of the Educational Committee that provides scholarships for local high school students. I also serve on both the Finance and Ambassador Committee. I really love to volunteer for the Chamber's events too.

4. Can you tell us a fun fact about your business that most people wouldn't know?
I have been in Dana Point for 45 years! I have seen many changes and I love sharing all my memories of Dana Point with customers.

5. Do you have any piece of advice for new businesses owners?
Dana Point Is a small business community. Work hard, get involved with your city. Make our city a better place to do business.
