{New Feature!}
Member Spotlight:
The Dog Shop
|
The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based organization that strives to tell the stories of its members and partner organizations, while promoting their people, places, and products.
This is accomplished in a variety of ways- one of which, by sharing information with our other members and partners and acting as an advocate to better gain exposure and awareness for each. We are proud to announce a new feature to our Member News: The Member Spotlight. This new feature will include highlights and showcasing a different business, helping to tell their story, and introduce their people, products, and place of business.
This month, we would like to introduce.....
The Dog Shop
Sharon Stockman knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in the animal care field.
"I've always loved animals," said Stockman, who grew up with a Boxer.
She originally wanted to become a veterinarian, but with limited funds, was not able to attend vet school. Instead, Stockman received training and certification as a dog groomer.
She started The Dog Shop, on Grove Street in Geneva, more than 40 years ago.
Stockman - a member of the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce since 2003 - offers dog grooming, massage therapy, teeth cleaning and reiki.
Stockman draws customers from throughout the Finger Lakes region, and from the Rochester area. She works on all sizes and breeds of dogs.
She recently added microchipping to her services
A microchip implant is an identifying integrated circuit placed under the skin of an animal.
Stockman is able to complete the procedure on a dog, and can also check to see if the device is already implanted in an animal.
Stockman draws customers from throughout the Finger Lakes region, and from the Rochester area. She works on all sizes and breeds of dogs.
The Dog Shop also serves as a training location for dog grooming students.
The best part of the job is making a dog look and feel better after a grooming session, Stockman said.
She also enjoys using her reiki training to help dogs in pain. Stockman said animals are very receptive to the energy healing process - sometimes more so than humans - because they are open to the experience.
She spoke of the benefits of reiki, sharing a story of a dog with cancer that she recently worked with.
The dog had been given a few weeks to live and his owner asked Stockman to perform the reiki as a way to help ease the pain.
The dog ended up living another five months with a decent quality of life as a result, Stockman said.
"It's a good feeling to know you're able to help an animal," Stockman said.
