A MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM
|
*Special Message from Abby*
Dear Members,
Happy Fall! Although we typically use this section to remind everyone about the Chamber's upcoming events and programs (see below for Harvest Celebration news and BAH recaps!), I wanted to take this opportunity to share some staff updates that will be taking place in the coming weeks.
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that at the end of September, I will be leaving the Geneva Chamber to pursue other career opportunities. I will still be local- you'll be able to find me over at Casella Waste on Doran Ave. in Geneva. It is a bittersweet transition- I'm happy that I had the opportunity to play a role in helping grow the Chamber into what you see today. The skills that I have developed during my time with the Chamber have prepared me for this change, however I can say with certainty that I will miss it.
I am happy to share that prior to my final day at the Chamber, Miranda will be back from her maternity leave! Although she has fully enjoyed spending quality time with baby Jaxon James (pictured at left), she is extremely excited to get back into the saddle and see what has been going on with the Chamber over the last few months. I'm also excited to share that Andrea Deckert (pictured below), our Member Relations Specialist who joined the Chamber team back in April of this year, has been diligently working to connect with many of our members both near and far, and will continue to promote the people, products, and services that make each unique.
During this time of transition, some additional office restructuring will be taking place, and the Chamber will be looking to add another person back to the team! So, if you or someone you know is interested in this opportunity, be sure to contact the office and express your interest! I speak from experience when I say that you'll develop many new skills and have great opportunities when working with the Chamber!
I want to take a moment to thank you all again for your continued support of not only the Chamber, but of the staff as well. Our team couldn't do what we do without the support from our members. Words can't even begin to describe how grateful I am for my time at the Chamber and all the experiences I've gained from it. Thank you for all that you do!

{New Feature!}
Member Spotlight:
Geneva Bicycle Center
|
The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based organization that strives to tell the stories of its members and partner organizations, while promoting their people, places, and products. This is accomplished in a variety of ways- one of which, by sharing information with our other members and partners and acting as an advocate to better gain exposure and awareness for each. We are proud to announce a new feature to our Member News: The Member Spotlight. This new feature will include highlights and showcasing a different business, helping to tell their story, and introduce their people, products, and place of business.
This month, we would like to introduce.....
Geneva Bicycle Center!
James Hogan admits he lives, eats and breathes bikes.
"I can't imagine life without a bike," said Hogan, owner of the Geneva Bicycle Center.
Hogan - who had previously worked at bike shops - started his business in 1995. It has been in the same downtown location at 489 Exchange St. since its inception, but has grown considerably, in terms of physical size and sales.
The Geneva Bicycle Center has been a member of the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce since 1999.
That was the same year Hogan took over ownership of the building. He has since made improvements to the upper floors - including inventory on the second floor; storage on the third and installed 89 solar panels on the roof.
The Geneva Bicycle Center has bikes for people of all ages and levels. The store has new and used models, as well as triathlon bikes. In addition, customers can shop bike accessories and apparel, and the store provides services, such as tune-ups and repairs.
The business also offers bike rentals, something that has been popular with area tourists, Hogan noted.
With the largest bike inventory around, Hogan's customers range from locals to those traveling from Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Pennsylvania and beyond.
Hogan has always enjoyed riding bikes, from BMX to road and mountain bikes.
His love of bicycles, coupled with the chance to speak with a variety of people, are the best parts of the job.
"I'm comfortable with people and love bikes and that's what I get to do all day long," Hogan said.
He also enjoys seeing people come in who haven't ridden in a while take it up again, and those who are new to riding deciding to give it a try. Over time, both types of riders become frequent visitors to the shop, and enjoy talking about their biking experiences.
Hogan's staff is just as dedicated to biking as Hogan, and their commitment shows.
The Geneva Bicycle Center has been voted to The National Bicycle Dealers Association's list of America's Best Bike Shops 10 years in a row.
Hogan credits the store's long-standing success to its knowledgeable staff, wide selection of inventory and dependable service department.
