A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

Changes in our community continue to happen with new construction, transportation improvements, organizational changes, and business development.

If you've been traveling around Chillicothe, you will see new ramps being installed in many locations at sidewalk intersections. This has been an ongoing project the city of Chillicothe has been doing. Work also is happening to repair and pave areas around town.

Construction on the new Coughlin Chevrolet is progressing. The work is being done at Guernsey Crossing on North Bridge Street.

Another change taking place is the new commitment of the Chamber in creating a permanent committee to oversee promotion and event planning of historic downtown Chillicothe. The move is a result of the dissolution of the Downtown Associates (DTA). That organization was formed in 1971 to help advocate and tackle issues of downtown by business and property owners. Over the years, the organization has struggled to have stable leadership and the chamber has stepped in numerous times to help keep the DTA going. In January of this year, the DTA's board of directors voted to have the chamber become the organization's managing agent. Now, with a focused effort and better involvement by our downtown chamber members, we're convinced this is the right time to have one organization that focuses on our entire community and has the best interest of all of our neighborhoods and districts in mind. The next few weeks will be busy with plans for holiday promotions, building new websites and getting literature ready for the upcoming busy holiday season. We look forward to continuing our work around Chillicothe and Ross County and thank the business community for this opportunity to move our city forward.

Earlier this week, the Mighty Children's Museum received a nice donation from LCNB National Bank. The organization presented a $5,000 check to the museum to assist them in their opening plans. The Fourth Street location is expected to open with brand new exhibits this fall.

2017 WOMEN'S CONFERENCE

My latest project has been organizing the agenda for the Chamber's 2017 Women's Conference.  We have settled on the theme, F.E.A.R. - Face Everything And Rise.  With this being only the second time that we have hosted this type of event, I do have to say that it is going to be phenomenal!

We are looking forward to some amazing speakers like Liz Ferro, of Girls With Sole and Author of Finish Line Feeling (which I am currently reading) - you will want to read this book!  We will also hear from Realtor Cindy Stevens, who will deliver an awesome presentation to you that you will have a hard time not smiling through - we love Cindy and she has a lot to share with us!  We also have put together a panel of local business women to share their stories with you (per last year's audience request).  I think that you will be surprised at some of their stories.  I'm telling you, this day will be one that you, your friends, your co-workers, and even your supervisors will want to attend!  We are not only focusing on business this year, we are focusing on every aspect that women deal with in life.

Our breakout sessions are still being finalized, but I can give you a sneak peek!  Liz Ferro will be talking about Health & Wellness in her session Heart & Sole.  I have to face that I am overweight and need to change my lifestyle, but it is scary.  Without doing that, I will not improve or rise to be the best version of me.  Attorney & Chillicothe Law Director, Sherry Rutherford, will talk to us regarding Estate Planning.  Now that is a scary topic and one that most of us fear and don't want to talk about.  I lost my Mom to cancer last year and I know how important it is to have these conversations early in life.  Clare Schwemlein, with Janney, Montgomery, Scott LLC will be talking to us about Investments.  I have a hard time with this topic as it is scary to think about aging, money, and retirement.  Clare can shed some light on investing your money.  How about public speaking, does that make your heart skip a beat?  We are finalizing a session on how to put those fears to rest.  I am also working on finalizing two more sessions that I hope to have set by Monday.  I'll tell you about those next week.

We have also included time for a quick speed networking session.  Make your reservation today and come prepared to Face Everything And Rise. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR THE B.I.G. LEADERSHIP CLASS

It's hard to believe that it is that time of year again.  We are currently taking applications for our Chamber B.I.G. (Business, Industry, & Government) Leadership Class.  We are filling up quickly, so please reach out to me as soon as possible with your candidate name so I can secure their spot.  We are switching things up a little and bringing back Steve Hummel of Transitions Unlimited to work with our group on some leadership topics.  The B.I.G class meets once per month, starting in September and finishing in May.  We travel to sites such as Horizon, Infosight, the State Capitol Building, Kenworth, Adena Health System, Glatfelter, and several more.  Class members will have the opportunity to meet with business leaders and CEOs at the sites and talk with them about their leadership styles, challenges, and also tour the facilities.  We will also work on some team building exercises and leadership skills.  Call me to talk about this unique opportunity!  We only have 14 spots available for the class and over half of them are filled already.
