A Message from the President
It's hard to believe in just a few short weeks schools will be out for summer vacation.  This has been an incredible year for the Bibb County School system, and the future is looking even brighter.  Our community has really come together to support our students, and in turn lay the groundwork for a stronger future workforce and increased economic development.  Some of the recent highlights in education include:

We were recently honored with a visit from New York Times Best-Selling Author Sean Covey.  Mr. Covey was in town to help kick off the "We Need the Leader in Me" campaign.  This joint venture of the Business Education Partnership (BEP) and Bibb County School District aims to implement The Leader in Me program in every Bibb County elementary and middle school.  The Chamber was proud to partner with the BEP to launch the first two The Leader in Me programs in our school district.  To date, four Bibb County elementary schools are participating in the program, with approximately 40 more to go to reach 100%.  The campaign is gaining momentum and recently announced a $250,000 contribution.  More information, including how you can support this effort, can be found at MacontheLeaderinMe.com.

The Chamber is so excited to sponsor Georgia's first Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA) right here in Macon.  The 23 student participants of the inaugural YEA recently held their Investor Panel Presentations.  These students have been working on developing business ideas since October, and this event gave them the opportunity to pitch their ideas to actual investors from our community.  The students were also judged during the presentation and the winners, brothers Dabney and William Peters, will now advance to the Semi Finals.  We are so proud of each of these students and we are so excited to see where their futures take them.  Click here for photos from the recent event.

Congratulations also goes out to the district robotics team, Team RoboBibb, for their recent State win!  This is still a relatively young program and our students are doing exceptional work!   They are heading to the World Championships in Houston this week.  If you would like to support their program and their upcoming trip, check out their GoFundMe page.

The work these students and their educators put in is crucial to our community, and we are so proud of all their hard work and extra effort.  The Peyton Anderson Foundation recently announced the Teach to Inspire Project.  " The Project is designed to empower Bibb County educators to bring their best ideas forward, with the ultimate goal of realizing potential and expanding opportunities."  Applications are now available for micro-grants to assist educators and benefit students.  This is going to make an incredible impact on our community!  Thanks to the support of community partners, we know that our students will continue to meet new challenges head on and accomplish incredible things.

Member Spotlight:  Pactiv
When Pactiv's facility in Macon burned down in 2013, many wondered how they would ever recover. With a strong leadership team in place both at the plant and in Lake Forest, the decision to re-build Macon was unanimous. In May of 2014, Macon
re-opened its doors proving to be an unstoppable force.

This past February, Pactiv hosted the 2016 EHS, Warehousing and Manufacturing Awards. These awards represent the extraordinary efforts taken toward achieving our world-class Safety and Environmental goals as well as Warehousing and Manufacturing achievements in 2016. Macon received the 2016 Manufacturing Plant
of the Year award (out of a possible 51 Pactiv facilities) showcasing their efforts and accomplishments over the past two years. Congratulations to Plant Manager James Burr (pictured below with the award) and the entire Macon team!!
