What Will It Be This Year?

Can you guess what it will be this year? Did you get it right last year? In the past it has been a swan, a nutcracker, an angel, a sleigh, a penguin, the grinch, Frosty the snowman, an elf, Bruins w/ Stanley Cup, reindeer, Red Sox Champs just to name a few designs ...so what will it be this year?

Not sure what we are talking about? Well, come find out on Saturday, December 5, when the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce presents their annual ice sculpture on the Town Common as part of Wilmington's Tree Lighting Ceremony.

This will be the 23rd year the Chamber has coordinated the ice sculpture demonstration. The sculpture has become an integral part of the town's celebration and is one of the main attractions - come watch 1,600 lbs. of ice take shape!

Is it time to get out of
your home office?

Another Road Race in the Books!

We could not have asked for better weather on Sunday, 9/27 for our 11th annual Road Race.  500 athletes either raced in the half marathon or 5K or walked on that sunny day.  The pride & spirit of Wilmington was bountiful with plenty of spectators out on the course cheering runners on and the start/finish line on Waltham St. was full of fun & festivities!

Cross country coaches took top spots.  For the 3rd year, WHS cross country coach, Brian Schell won 1st place in the 5K and Fran Cusick, THS asst. cross country coach won 1st place in the Half Marathon.  Visit  www.racewire.com for complete race results.

Although the Chamber organizes this event, it really is a town-wide effort and the list of "thank you's" is too long but most certainly includes:  WPD, WFD, Town Hall, DPW, Dan Vassallo, Rotary Interact Kids, WPS, WCTV, Tom Pazyra, Jim Buckley, Joan Searfoss, Chamber Board of Directors & of course the many race site & course volunteers.

Most importantly, thank you to our Race Sponsors (listed below).  It is because of you that the race was financially successful allowing the Chamber to again provide scholarships next May to graduating Wilmington Seniors.  Kudos to the 28 sponsors who set up booths on race day to promote their products/services.  Feedback from the runners was overwhelmingly positive regarding the race in general but in particular regarding our business sponsors.

Thanks also to our friends at Abundant Life Christian School for taking the initiative to set up their own water stop table.

Another FREE Chamber Benefit
One of our goals at the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce is to help our members create awareness of the product and services they offer; hopefully resulting in increased sales.  We do this in various ways throughout the year via advertising & marketing opportunities.  We promote the importance of cross-referrals among business members and also champion the message to consumers to "BUY LOCAL".

As we come upon the holiday season, let us help you remind residents that small businesses are the foundation of our community.  They create jobs, build our economy, and support our neighborhoods and youths.  When they shop at a Wilmington local business, they support all the things that make our community great.  The money they spend here, stays here, in the place they call home!

The Chamber has used some of the proceeds from our road race to purchase "BUY LOCAL" door mats for our members and are available for pick up at the Chamber office.  Chamber Board of Directors will be delivering door mats on or before 11/10 to members with high retail traffic.  Hopefully the doormats will enhance holiday promotional events/campaigns and effectively spread the "BUY LOCAL" message.

Please be sure to refer business to fellow Chamber members!
Lasers in Dentisty?  Yes, lasers have been used successfully for years in dentistry.

Dr Paul Caselle, a Wilmington Chamber member and former member of the Board of Directors, has been using lasers in his dental practice located at Lucci's Shopping Plaza for over 10 years.   In addition to seeing patients in his office, Dr Caselle travels across the country educating dentists on the newest laser technology as a member of the training faculty for Biolase Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of lasers.

Why are lasers beneficial?   Lasers can be used in place of a high speed drill to delicately remove decay from teeth usually without the need for local anesthesia. Since lasers have pinpoint accuracy it is possible to be minimally invasive when removing decay. Furthermore lasers can be used to detect unseen decay under the surface of the enamel resulting in early treatment that yield smaller fillings and preserve more tooth structure than the traditional high speed drill.

Lasers have had a tremendous impact on treatment of gum disease. The laser is able to gently remove diseased gum tissue helping to establish long-term attachment of gum tissue to the tooth and can stimulate bone regeneration. This often leads to better long-term treatment of periodontal disease than traditional periodontal surgery. In addition, the laser seals blood vessels resulting in less bleeding and swelling while minimizing pain after treatment.

The laser can also do several other procedures such as biopsies, release of lip & tongue-tie, remove overgrown gum tissue without the need for stitches and very often without the need for anesthetic.

Recent research has shown that the use of low level laser therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of medical problems such as jaw pain, canker sores, herpetic lesions, enhanced wound healing, and tooth sensitivity.
The application of Laser therapies is rapidly expanding with new research.

Dr Caselle would like to extend an invitation to all Chamber members and their families to call for a complimentary consultation.
Winbrook, a Branded Materials fulfillment and solutions provider, turns 50 this year.  In 1965, two brothers, Dale and Chuck Lattanzio started the company to provide much needed print management, warehousing and fulfillment services to the financial and banking marketplace.  50 years later, the next generation has continued on the mission of providing exceptional service and programs to a wide variety of  market segments both locally and globally.  Located in Billerica, across the street from the Shawsheen Tech on Alexander Rd., Winbrook became a member of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce about four years ago upon occasion of Mike Champoux, a local business owner at the time, joining the company.  Mike, who has been a long time Chamber member and Director on the Board, brought his business and expertise in Promotional Products and Client Service to Winbrook and helped round out the Winbrook | PROMO division of the company.  Since joining the Chamber, Winbrook has been an active supporter and sponsor of the Chamber's annual half marathon and 5K and the annual tree lighting Ice Sculpture on Wilmington Common among other projects.
Chip Lattanzio, Executive Vice President said "We are truly excited to be a part of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Our intent is to continue to support the local business community for years to come in partnership with the Chamber and our fellow member companies in the region".
Winbrook sources, manages, fulfills and accounts for all things branded to bring their client's marketing to life in the real world and help their businesses to grow.  Areas of focus include print, promotions, branded apparel, packaging, imprinted displays, project management, warehousing and fulfillment and "Winsource", a 24/7 client access to their marketing materials and data.  See more at www.winbrook.com
