Employers face challenges every day in complying with the web of wage and hour laws that govern their treatment of employees.  As running afoul of wage and hour regulations can be very costly, even for those employers with the best intentions, employers must ensure that their wage and hour policies and procedures are compliant with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act as well as state wage/hour statutes.
Please join us for this workshop as we discuss some common mistakes employers make in paying their employees, including:
  • The misclassification of an individual as an exempt employee
  • Taking improper deductions from an exempt employee's salary
  • Failing to pay hourly employees for all hours worked
  • Reducing the hourly wage of hourly employees below minimum wage
  •  Failing to implement a comprehensive Wage and Hour Policy

Digital Marketing Conference Brings Amazon, Facebook to Kennesaw State

Amazon, Facebook, Yelp, MailChimp, ReachLocal, WorldPay and other high-profile companies are sending experts to the 2018 Digital Marketing Conference at the UGA Small Business Development Center at Kennesaw State University (UGA SBDC at KSU) to teach small business owners how they can use digital marketing strategies to better connect with new and existing customers.

The 2018 Digital Marketing Conference on Friday, April 6 at the KSU Center features speakers from some of the largest and most influential players in the digital marketing space. Co-hosted with the UGA SBDC International Trade Center, the full-day conference will show attendees how social media, email marketing platforms, online payment systems, and other technologies can help grow their businesses at home and abroad.

Keynote speaker Cynthia Williams, Vice-President of Fulfillment for Amazon, will discuss how her company's fulfillment services give small businesses the freedom to market their products to a wider audience, with Amazon managing all of the warehousing and shipping. Amazon is also sending a representative of their international fulfillment team to talk about putting international customers within reach.

"It's exciting to have two people from Amazon speaking at the conference, especially with Atlanta being on the top 20 list of potential cities for Amazon's new headquarters," says Drew Tonsmeire, area director for the UGA SBDC at KSU.  Other speakers at the 2018 Digital Marketing Conference include:
