~~~ USBGNY Happenings
The USBG NY Chapter has been very active this month and last.
Our USBG Cocktail Jam this past Monday was a HUGELY ENORMOUS success (pics, winners, etc. in next issue), and we look forward to our mixer in April with Banks 5 Island rum at El Cobre.
Here's a note on this past month's mixer from Jason Littrell, USBGNY Prez:
Some of New York's finest cocktail minds came to Macao Trading Co. last week for another exciting and educational meeting of the United States Bartenders Guild. This month's mixer was hosted by the legendary Hanna Lee of Hanna Lee Communications, and sponsored by Campari. Ms. Lee presented a seminar on the do's and don'ts of marketing yourself in the food and beverage industry, while Chad Solomon and Christy Pope gave us a thorough background on the origins of a classic Negroni cocktail. Is your brand interested in sponsoring one of the NY Chapter's monthly mixers, luncheons, or other events?
We would also like to include a link below to a great article about the newly created USBG Boston Chapter.
Business Class:
The USBG Leadership Conference - San Francisco
Twenty-one chapter leaders from across the U.S. came together from March 14-17, 2011, in San Francisco, for the first ever USBG National Leadership Conference.
The week was highlighted with informative seminars on leading and managing your USBG chapters, sponsored lunches and dinners, as well as amazingly fun activities...like:
Irish Coffees at "Buena Vista", where they were invented... A private evening bus tour of SF... A trip out to Anchor Distilling Co.... An event to help those in need in Japan... And more!
Please check out the new USBG National facebook page for some amazing photos of the week...
The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Convention (WSWA)
I've had the privilege of being invited for the 3rd straight year to this amazing event. Every other year it's in Las Vegas, then Orlando, and so on...and I'm super excited that we'll be back in Orlando. This is, after all, where I met Dan Akroyd, if you'll recall...
Tasting hundreds of spirits and liqueurs is tough work...trust me. But the fine folks at Tasting Panel Magazine and WSWA make it all worth it.
If you happen to be there, come by and say hi to me. I may or may not be conscious.
The Funnies...
Vintage Funnies:
This comes to us via Mr. Brian Rea and his wonderful website, www.TheBarkeeper.com This cartoon appeared in the 1950 book, "Authentic and Hilarious Bar Book," by Virgil F. Partch. What a treasure, eh? (I meant the Cartoon, not Brian)
