Rhode Island Monthly Magazine's
"Wedding Experience"

Another day, another bridal show!  How exciting!

This time we saddled up to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI, where hundreds of eager brides-to-be explored the rooms filled with local vendors.

We had the luxury of being set up with a demo bar, in which the "Ginger-Pomegranate Sparkler" was served.  A lovely day was had by all, and we thoroughly enjoyed working with our friends at Rhode Island Monthly Magazine.

Here's to next year!

Want some pics?  Check back on our Wedding Cocktail Design blog in a couple of weeks (once we get settled in to our new digs).

AND

In case you missed it, check out this segment on WNBC Weekend Today in NY in which I mixed up some Valentine's Day cocktails.  How romantic!

gaz is the man
In case you've never heard of Gary Regan a/k/a gaz regan, please allow me to introduce him to you:

gaz is the best teacher I've ever encountered.  He is the author of numerous cocktail and spirit-related books (including the Joy of Mixology - every bartender's bible), and to top it all off - is a good friend.  I owe him tons (and by tons I mean a lifetime of free drinks), and I think he is the finest and brightest in the biz.

From time to time I receive his newsletters and various missives, and eagerly read them to catch the latest news and recipes.  It would be my absolute delight to share his website with you, and encourage you to sign up for his email list (if you haven't already done so):

Thanks, gaz!

Recent USBGNY Happenings

The new USBGNY Council (Jason Littrell, Marshall Altier, Nick Jarrett, Hal Wolin) have been doing an amazing job with their transition.  The team-work exhibited by this new group of gents is quite amazing, and I look forward to what they have in store for us as members of the NY chapter.

Some of those things are:

- Health Care
- Tax preparation
- Legal services
- More charitable events and donations
- Trips to distilleries and neighboring chapters
- And more!

Springtime Sparkling Soothers

One of my favorite times of the year, spring yields amazing fruits and herbs that work wonders in cocktails.

A few successful experiments are below - feel free to try and make them on your own at home!

And who knows, you might find one of these on the menu at The Campbell Apartment or Bookmarks Lounge.  I'm just sayin'.

 Mango-Lime Sparkler

1 oz. Mango Puree (from Boiron)
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1 tsp. agave nectar
3 oz. sparkling wine or champagne

Directions: Gently fold ingredients with ice in a mixing glass.  Strain into a flute that has been 1/2 rimmed with chili powder-sugar rim**

Chili powder sugar rim: Combine equal parts white sugar and chili powder and stir to combine.  That's it.  Really.

Strawberry-Mint Sparkler

3 strawberries, chopped
5 mint leaves
1 tsp. agave nectar
1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
3 oz. sparkling wine or champagne

Directions: In a mixing glass, muddle the strawberries and mint in the agave and lemon juice.  Then add sparkling wine or champagne and gently fold with ice.  Strain into a chilled champagne flute.

Garnish: strawberry slice on rim of glass
The Funnies...

Vintage Funnies:

This comes to us via Mr. Brian Rea and his wonderful website, www.TheBarkeeper.com  This cartoon appeared in the 1950 book, "Authentic and Hilarious Bar Book," by Virgil F. Partch.  What a treasure, eh? (I meant the Cartoon, not Brian)
