Tips for college

by Patti Boheme

*Have a document from your doctor with your child's diagnosis

*Meet with disabilities department ahead of time-you will need proof of your child's diagnosis to get support

*If possible, get your child a private room if they need one

*Identify a doctor ahead of time if your child has special medical needs

*Secure a counselor or an advisor on campus that will check in regularly with your child

*Many schools allow for extra time on tests, private rooms and note takers. Access these services if needed but also try and transition your child off them since real life jobs often don't offer these accommodations

*Celebrate your child's success
