District News
Superintendent's Corner
What an amazing week! On Monday evening, the board continued discussions around facility priorities and are getting close to finalizing projects to bring forward in a referendum. The next conversation is on December 11. On Tuesday, I attended a program on Striking a Balance Between Social-Emotional and Academic Learning  and heard our WHS Rotary Students of the Month speak On Wednesday, we continued engaging parents through a learning session for our parents of gifted learners. On Thursday, I was fortunate enough to participate in Challenge Day  at WHS. On Friday, I met with Greenfield, Greendale, and Franklin as we continue to find ways to collaborate and build partnerships. As always, please check our social media accounts for more updates!

As we officially enter December today, I look forward to the festivities and celebrations this month. The annual Hales Corners tree lighting is on Saturday, which will feature Whitnall band students. I hope to see you there!

School Report Cards 2016-2017
School Report Cards for the 2016-17 school year were recently released by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Scores for Whitnall School District can be found online here by searching “Whitnall.” DPI generates a District and School Report Card for every publicly funded school and district in the state each year. (Educational options for Whitnall District residents can be found here ). Schools and districts receive a composite score based on Student Achievement, School Growth, Closing Gaps, and Post-Secondary Readiness. We would like to share the following information from our District Report Card:

Highlights

  • The Whitnall School District continues to Exceed Expectations with an overall score of 77.6
  • WSD continues to score above the WI state average in ELA and math achievement
  • WSD scored 39.5 out of a total 40 points for Graduation Rate

Areas for Improvement

  • WSD will continue our work on closing our achievement gaps, making this a priority area
  • WSD saw a drop in growth scores at the district and school level.  This is something we already consider a priority in the district. It is important to note, however, that according to the DPI, across the state this year, there were larger than expected score changes in the area of growth. Because fluctuations are larger than expected, a cautious approach to the interpretation of this score is needed.
