Happy Friday! I hope that everyone enjoyed the warm(er) week! We saw some great parent and community involvement at Whitnall this week. Thank you to all the parents who attended Tuesday's Parent Learning Academy on grading. For those who were unable to attend, we are holding another next week! There is more info below. Thank you, also, to all those who attended the first of our referendum informational sessions yesterday! A list of the remaining events related to our upcoming referendum can be found on

We have also been adding videos to the referendum page, as an easy way to see our buildings and their needs without having to make the trip. Check them out!

The next Parent Learning Academy is on February 22 in the community board room. This is an alternate meeting date for those who could not make the February 13 PLA on grading.

Since there is no school on Monday, consider attending the No-School U-Bake-It Workshop at the Hales Corners Library! This is a drop-in program, no registration needed. And it’s all about making, baking, decorating, and eating cookies!

On February 27th, we will be administering the state ACT to 11th grade students. This is a school day for 11th grade students only.

9th through 11th grade student scheduling is beginning. Parents: please review the course guide with your students to be ready to pick classes. Additionally, current 11th grade students interested in a health career pathway: the Certified Nursing Assistant program application is now available in the Counseling Office. If you are interested, please pick up the information ASAP, since spots are limited. The application is due to Miss Revoir by February 22nd.

Required Civics Assessment
|
As part of Wisconsin Act 59, all students in the state of Wisconsin, starting with the class of 2017, must pass the State Civics Exam. This exam consists of 100 questions that are identical to the 100 questions that comprise the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services exam. The exam can be taken more than once. Students must receive a score of 65 in order to graduate from a WI public, charter, or private school. The exam will be given to both juniors and seniors in a multiple choice format. A passing score will be recorded on the student’s official transcript, and they will not need to take the exam again. Preparation materials can be found on
the Grading & Assessment page
of the WSD website.
- Seniors will take the exam on the morning of February 20th
- Juniors will take the exam on the morning of February 21st.

Parents of 9th and 10th grade students: STAR test results were sent home with students earlier this week. If you did not get a copy of the results, please contact the student's teacher for a copy.

Tonight is the Valentine's Dance at Whitnall Middle school. The dance begins at 7 PM and ends at 9 PM. Tickets are $6 at the door with a signed permission slip.
|

On February 23 from 1-3 PM, 8th grade learners will attend a career fair being hosted at WMS!
|
|
On February 22, 8th grade learners are taking a science field trip to Sunburst. They will be experiencing the physics of tubing!
|
|
The 4th and 5th grade choral concerts will be held next week at EES in the main gym. Grade 4 is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21st at 6 PM. The grade 5 concert will be held on Thursday, February 22nd at 6 PM. The theme for both concerts is “Through the Decades.” Each show will be a bit different, as the students helped to select the songs they will perform.

This past Monday, students and staff at EES practiced their second lockdown drill of the school year. The purpose of our safety drills is to acclimate students and staff to a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively, and safely in the case of an emergency. Generally, one safety drill (fire, lockdown, tornado) is held each month during the school year.
|

Mark your calendars! The Family Fun Dance will be held on Friday, March 2nd from 6:30 - 9:00 PM at the middle school. The PTO will also be hosting a Family Movie Night on Friday, March 9th at 6:45 PM in the EES main gym. More information and volunteer sign-ups for both events will be available soon.

Edgerton Elementary will be hosting a book swap in June. If you have any gently used children’s books your family is no longer reading, please consider donating them to the book swap. With enough donations, every child at EES will take home new and exciting books for their summer reading! Donations may be dropped off at the Edgerton office during regular school hours.

4th and 5th Grade Growth and Development Parent Night

The handicapped parking on Godsell Avenue is only for those with DMV issued licenses or placards. It is not a general loading or unloading area. These parking spots are necessary for the safe access of students and visitors with handicap needs.
