District News
Superintendent's Corner
Welcome to our first issue of The Connect ! I'm very excited about increasing our communication with our Whitnall families. Since I began in the district last July, I have continued to be impressed with the level of engagement of our families, and improving our communication is key to this engagement.

My role as superintendent requires me to make decisions on behalf of the district--and those decisions can't be done sitting in my office. These decisions are made best when in classrooms, attending concerts and programs, watching athletic events, and engaging in conversations with staff, parents, and the community.

Each week, I would like to share some of these wonderful experiences. One of the highlights this past week was attending the K5 and 1st grade concerts at HCE. A month ago, I spent the afternoon as a 1st grader at HCE, which including going to music class where they practiced for the concert. It was wonderful being able to attend the concert and see the results of all the hard work of students and staff.

Important Change in Last Day of School
In reviewing the 2016-17 calendar, it was noted that the last day of school, June 9th, was a full day of school. In the past, this has been a half day for a variety of reasons. Since the high school students finish early on June 9th due to the semester exam schedule, we are changing the last day of school to a half day for all buildings. We recognize the challenges when a family has students in different buildings with different schedules and try to avoid this from occurring whenever possible. Therefore, the dismissal times for Friday, June 9th are as follows:

10:45 - WHS
10:50 - WMS
11:20 - EES and HCE

If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.

While we celebrate the completion of this assessment, we now turn our attention to MAP testing, PALS assessments, and reading benchmark assessments that teachers will be conducting in the upcoming weeks. Please assist us by making sure that your children are eating a good breakfast each day and that they are getting a good night’s rest.

This upcoming week, our PBIS “experience raffle” winners will enjoy spending time with a staff member during their lunch period.
