Last year, we unfortunately had three incidents in which a student or crossing guard was hit at or near the intersection of Edgerton Avenue and 116th Street. We asked for cooperation in paying extra close attention to pedestrian and vehicle traffic around WMS and WHS.
This year, we made changes to WMS bus and parent pick-up/drop-off to alleviate the congestion of traffic at the four-way stop at Edgerton Avenue and 116th Street. We also have added a crossing guard at the crosswalk by the WHS marquee sign. Those changes have been working but we feel a few more changes can improve the traffic safety.
Starting immediately, the north lane of the WHS entrance by the marquee will be blocked for outgoing traffic from
7:30 - 8:00 AM
and then again from
2:30 - 3:15 PM
. There will be barricades at this lane during these times. Traffic exiting this entrance at this time creates a hazard at the crosswalk if going north and a bottleneck if going south. Traffic will be allowed to enter at this entrance from 116th Street. Students and staff who are leaving during this time will need to exit the primary exit in front of the WHS lobby or the exit by the pool.
We will be painting pedestrian lines in the WHS parking lot to control pedestrian traffic in the parking lot to and from the building. Students and staff should stay in the pedestrian lines at all times and be attentive to traffic. Starting Monday, September 10, pedestrian traffic should plan to use the pedestrian walks in the parking lot.

Please note that there is no left turn allowed into our parking lot from Edgerton Avenue from 3:15 - 3:45 PM. All vehicles should proceed west on Edgerton to the 2nd left after our parking lot, which is W. Woodland Circle. Continue on W. Woodland Circle to return to Edgerton Avenue where you will be able to turn right into the parking lot. In addition, we ask that you do not park on Edgerton Avenue so traffic can keep moving. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe and alleviate the traffic congestion during pick up time.
