The NHL-mandated rink renovations began at Centre Ice Arena on May 14 and will conclude on or before June 3. The rink upgrades, which are required for Detroit Red Wings Training Camp and NHL Prospect Tournament to return to Traverse City, will make the rink safer for all athletes and spectators.
Here are a few photos of the renovation so far.
Centre Ice is replacing the existing tempered glass with acrylic panes which will be taller than the current glass to better protect spectators and provide clearer viewing of the rink. The current boards will remain in place, but a new black soft cap system with rounded edges will sit atop the boards. The stanchions for the acrylic panels will also be black for a uniformed look. The new stanchions are flush with the panels, reducing the risk of injuries to athletes. The new stanchion system is not only safer but more efficient; damaged panes can be switched out in minutes. Black Kevlar netting will also be installed.
The crowdfunding efforts will continue until June 2. We are asking for your help!
Centre Ice needs to raise at least $110,000 for the project. Please donate to our GivingGrid.com Crowdfunding Campaign by June 2.
