Sponsor Spotlight
Baptist Health South Florida and Doctors Hospital

Doctors Hospital

The Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida, opening Fall 2016.

The Coral Gables Community Foundation is proud to announce Doctors Hospital & Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute as a Platinum Sponsor and presenter of the Sports & Wellness award at our upcoming 25 th Anniversary gala. The Foundation has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Baptist Health South Florida in our shared community of Coral Gables, and we are honored to partner with them once again for this important milestone year.

In 2003, Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables became part of the not-for-profit Baptist Health South Florida, the region's largest healthcare organization, with seven hospitals and nearly 50 outpatient and urgent care facilities in Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach counties.

Coral Gables Community Foundation Board Member, Nelson Lazo became Chief Executive Officer of Doctors Hospital in 2010. Baptist Health updated all 281 rooms to standards comparable, he says, to a high-end hotel in Coral Gables. The objective, Lazo says, is to maintain an efficient facility focused on patient health and wellness. "We want to provide tremendous value to our patients. You come in, get diagnosed, treated and we send you home - so you don't have to come back."

Baptist Health is one of the largest employers in South Florida, with 16,000 employees and 2,400 affiliated physicians. One of Baptist Health's Centers of Excellence, Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute, was established at Doctors Hospital. The Institute, which provides sports medicine services for the Miami Dolphins, Miami HEAT, Florida Panthers, Florida International University athletics, Orange Bowl, Miami Beach Bowl, Miami-Dade County Public Schools athletics, Miami Open Tennis and Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, is trusted by professional athletes to get them back in top form. Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute combines its resources of experienced physicians and leading-edge treatments and technology to provide advanced orthopedic, pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine care.

In the summer of 2014, Baptist Health broke ground on the Miami Cancer Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that will bring Baptist Health's outpatient cancer services together under one roof. Miami Cancer Institute is due to open this fall, and the proton therapy center, housed in the adjacent research building, is slated to open in 2017.
"This is an exciting time for Baptist Health," said Lazo. "It's gratifying to see our communities benefit from this period of significant growth and innovation."

The Coral Gables Community Foundation is grateful for the continued support of Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute & Doctors Hospital. We are proud to honor Former Miami Dolphins player Nat Moore with the Sports & Wellness Award presented by  Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute at our 25th Anniversary Gala on Friday, October 14th at the Coral Gables Country Club.
