Principal's Message

Greetings Delaware Trail Families,

We have made a positive transition into December with some VERY exciting news. The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) released state-wide ISTEP+ results this week.  ISTEP+ is just one of the ways we measure our student's academic growth at Brownsburg.  Although the scores were just made public, individual student scores have been available to our teachers for some time.  Teachers use these scores as a tool to adjust the instruction and support for our students.  We are very happy to report that as a district, 2016 ISTEP+ results for students in grades 3-8 increased and showed that Brownsburg students achieved the highest pass rate in the state in math, English, and in the number of students passing both.  No other school corporation in Indiana had a higher percentage of students passing the ISTEP+.  This is a result of the hard work of our amazing teachers and students and the support of our families and staff.

Next week, our PTSG is sponsoring our annual Santa Shoppe. Students should have an envelope with their day to shop listed. This committee does an AMAZING job of finding gifts throughout the year so that our students have really nice items to choose from at reasonable prices! On December 14th, our 3rd and 4th graders have their Winter Musicals at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. We will wrap up our last week before break with our monthly Character Convocation and annual all school Holiday Sing Along.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Greene

Nurse Notes

*As colder weather approaches, please send your student to school with the appropriate cold weather gear. Coats, hats, gloves, and scarves will be needed -- especially at recess! Corporation policy states that a "feels like temp of 10 degrees" is the threshold for determining outside recess vs. indoor recess.
*Cold and flu season is BACK! Encourage your student to wash their hands frequently and to cough and sneeze into elbows. Please keep your student home when they have a fever >100 or exhibit symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea to help prevent the spread of these common viruses. They can return to school only after being fever free or symptom free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medications.
*Please remember that ALL over the counter medications brought to school, including cough drops, must be accompanied by a completed OTC form, which can be located on our school website under the Clinic tab.

*Vision Follow ups - Parents of 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders, If your student did not pass his/her vision screen at school this fall and you haven't followed up with a thorough eye exam, please do so as soon as possible. Winter break is a great time to schedule those appointments without having to miss school! Students who cannot see adequately cannot learn adequately! If you need assistance with making an appointment or with resources, please contact your school nurse or counselor, as there are several programs to assist those who qualify.
Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!
