 Principal's Message
Happy September DT Families!
The student's pictured above are our August Character Trait Winners! These students truly lived out the trait of RESPECT as we kicked off our year. They were nominated by their classroom teachers and special areas teachers. At lunch last Friday, we had lunch at a "special table" just for them. All of the students in the cafeteria enjoyed a Power Point with their pictures and an explanation of why they were nominated.
We have a many great things going on here this month. Our Dog Jog Kick Off will be Friday September 11th at 2:50 in our gym. Dog Jog will be the morning of September 18th.   On the afternoon of the 18th, we hope that you will join our staff at the parade at 5 p.m. before the big homecoming game!
Enjoy the long weekend,
Mrs. Greene

Yankee Candle Sale Begins September 11th
The 15th Annual Yankee Candle fundraiser for the Brownsburg Education Foundation (BEF) is around the corner.  On Friday, September 11th, each student will receive a catalog to share with family and friends. The best and easiest way to order is online and you will find the instructions for sending the link for online ordering to your family and friends in the packet. Online orders will be delivered directly to the one ordering by mail in 2-3 weeks. If the paper order form is used, the order form and money need to be returned by September 28th to Reagan. You will have to pick up and distribute anything ordered using the paper order form on November 10th & 11th at the BCSC Maintenance Facility at 550 Airport Road.  Proceeds from this fundraiser go toward teacher educational grants and student scholarships that are given out each year by the BEF whose mission is to encourage and support creativity, innovation, and excellence that will enhance the educational community of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation.

Hearing Screening

Indiana State law requires students in grades 1, 4, 7, and 10 to have their hearing screened. All kindergarten students and all students new to BCSC will be tested as well. The Brownsburg Speech and Language Pathologists will be conducting hearing screenings at each school.

Students who do not pass their hearing screenings will receive paperwork notifying you of the results. (If your child does not pass their hearing screening, you will be notified of pass/did not pass results when a re-screening is done as well.)

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's hearing.

Character Education

The Brownsburg Community School Corporation character trait for the month is
RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibility means that you are accountable for what you say and do: All of your choices are your own. Why is responsibility important? Think of what would happen if a firefighter didn't do his job? People might get hurt and property would get damaged. Responsibility is important because it helps us to stay safe in our communities, treat others with kindness, and be better learners at school.
Help encourage our students to be Responsible by talking about the character trait each week in September and October.

Volunteer Criminal Background Check Policy
In an effort to keep our school safe, all volunteers much complete a volunteer application form/criminal background check request and be approved as a volunteer prior to volunteering. The form must be completed at least two (2) weeks prior to the event in which the volunteer chooses to participate in.

Volunteer background checks are completed by the Human Resource Department using the State of Indiana Police criminal records database and the sex offender database.

Volunteer criminal background checks are valid for 3 years. After 3 years volunteers will be required to complete a new volunteer request form and the status as a volunteer will be reconsidered.

Volunteer criminal background checks are required for:
-attending or assisting with class parties
-assisting school staff in the classroom or school building
-having lunch at school building with a student
