Join us tomorrow evening for our Full Moon Festival (PokémonGo Style)! The full moon has not only enchanted our resident desert-dwellers, but countless Pokémon as well. Trainers can do everything at the Desert Museum - catch Pokémon, hatch eggs, conquer our two gyms, and meet other players! Pro tip? Our ila monsters told us that there will be lure drops every hour from 5-9 p.m. Don't forget to look up! You don't want to miss out on the natural beauty that is the Sonoran Desert.  Where Are The Pokémon?

Arizona Summer Survival Skills

Summers in Arizona are hot. There is no  doubt  about it. Think you know everything about surviving an Arizona summer? ASDM Education Docent, Jim Miller, shared tips on how to stay cool during the summertime season with  Green Living Arizona He encourages us to look to nature's most experienced creatures (kangaroo rats, snakes, lizard, and the like) for insight. His top tips? Conserve water and avoid heat. It's a great read.  Beat The Heat & Quench Your Thirst!

Prancing Prairie Dogs

This week, we are highlighting our black-tailed  prairie  dogs. Did you know that 70-90% of their diet consists of vegetation? It seems like they were the  original  vegetarians! While they aren't munching on grass, they are socializing in their colony. The size of the colony can range from 5 to thousands of these cuties. As you can see from the video, they love to play! Make sure to come visit with them this weekend. Prairie Dogs Pirouette!

Flower Friday

Happy Flower Friday! The Arizona Fishhook Cacti (Mammillaria grahamii) are popping up all over the Desert Museum! They are quite small cacti, typically growing up to 6-7 inches high. These bloomin' beauties are just another reason to join us for tomorrow's Cool Summer Nights (Full Moon Festival)! Have you had any blossom around your house? We would love to see pictures. You can send your photos to krumbley@desertmuseum.org

Volunteers of the Month

We would like to congratulate our volunteers of the month, Melisa Ambers and John Lewallen! Melisa is a Wednesday Docent and Public Programs Volunteer. Her enthusiastic attitude towards ethnobotany of the Sonoran Desert is contagious! John is an Earth Ambassador Assistant and School Group Greeter. He recently braved four days of camping with middle schoolers, along with scorching temperatures. We could not do what we do without them. Thank you for being such a great addition to the family.  Volunteer now!
