Eagle Parents:

Great week back!

We started the very busy three weeks off with Acuity Assessments in Grades 3-5. Students will be tested in math and language arts. Students take Acuity three times a year. It is based upon the skills and standards at the respective grade levels. Students are expected to increase performance each time as they are exposed to more content each month. The Acuity Assessment is one resource we use to help diagnose areas of strength and growth areas. We also use it as area for goal setting for students. Next week, al students K-5 will do their middle of the year DIBELS Assessment.

Couple of friendly reminders as the busy months are coming up!

1. Please make sure your child is coming to school with a coat, hat, gloves and winter clothing. I would suggest writing your name on all items as well as checking the lost and found if items go missing.

2. We love having parent guests for lunch. A general rule is that we have asked students to ask one friend to join them for a lunch with mom and dad. Please follow this guideline as during this time of year we have many guests and we want to allow as many parents to come in. Thanks for understanding.

3. Our last day will be December 16th and students will not return until Tuesday, January 3rd.

Have a great weekend! Go Colts! Beat the Jets!

Mr. H.

Counselor's Corner

December Character Trait: COMPASSION

Our character trait for the months of November is COMPASSION. Compassion means being kind to others. In life we can't be "just me" people: Because we are surrounded by others, we need to be "thinking of others" people. This means that we take notice of others' feelings and needs. For example, if someone has a lot to carry, we can open the door for them.  If a student drops something, we can help them pick it up. If someone is sad, we can try to talk to them about their problem and cheer them up.

Eagle students have done a wonderful job of showing compassion towards those in our community by donating coins. This was to assist Connection Pointe Church with helping needy families for Christmas.

KidzArt Winter Session-Grades 1 -5

A new session of KidzArt is coming and we have spots available for more students to learn how to create art in many different styles and mediums.  We are now offering Wednesday & Thursday sessions. This session's theme is Animals Gone Wild and we will be creating animals real, like cats in love and dogs driving trucks, and imaginary, like a fiery flying phoenix! Winter session begins Wednesday December 7 2016.

School Nurse

*As colder weather approaches, please send your student to school with the appropriate cold weather gear. Coats, hats, gloves, and scarves will be needed -- especially at recess! Corporation policy states that a "feels like temp of 10 degrees" is the threshold for determining outside recess vs. indoor recess.
*Cold and flu season is BACK! Encourage your student to wash their hands frequently and to cough and sneeze into elbows. Please keep your student home when they have a fever >100 or exhibit symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea to help prevent the spread of these common viruses. They can return to school only after being fever free or symptom free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medications.
*Please remember that ALL over the counter medications brought to school, including cough drops, must be accompanied by a completed OTC form, which can be located on our school website under the Clinic tab.

*Vision Follow ups - Parents of 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders, If your student did not pass his/her vision screen at school this fall and you haven't followed up with a thorough eye exam, please do so as soon as possible. Winter break is a great time to schedule those appointments without having to miss school! Students who cannot see adequately cannot learn adequately! If you need assistance with making an appointment or with resources, please contact your school nurse or counselor, as there are several programs to assist those who qualify.
Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!
