Hello from Mr. Hoover

Eagle Parents:

The weather may be up and down but our Eagle Students stay at a high level each and every week! An enormous amount of events and activities this week. Check out the highlights:

*Students in Grade 5 and Grade 1 concluded taking assessments for the high ability program. All students were assessed using various instruments including math assessments at Grade 5. The teachers along with Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Badgley are diligently organizing this information and having it ready to be scored. We will have more information on this in the coming weeks.

*Today was "Crayon Day" at Eagle! The student council decided on this theme and each grade level chose a color to wear to represent their grade! We also had a snack sale as well!

*Boomer came to Eagle today! Boomer is the official mascot of the Indiana Pacers! Amazingly, he also knows a few things about hard work, dedication and positive attitude! Boomer encouraged our students to work their hardest each day, to get a good night's sleep, and to exercise and eat healthy! He even pumped us up about the upcoming ISTEP Assessment and encouraged us to prepare well and try our best! Lastly, he decided to do some pretty cool dunks as well!!

*Last but not least please check out the information on the upcoming Riley Week! We have a great week in store and hope to continue our streak of remaining a Miracle School for Riley!

Have a great weekend! We hope you enjoy Super Bowl Sunday! Go Broncos

Music Program - Grades 1-2

SAVE THE DATE
March 10, 2016

Parents, Grandparents, Friends and Neighbors,
Please mark your calendars for March 10th when the 1st and 2nd grade music programs are coming to the Eagle Elementary gym at 6:30 PM (1st) and 7:30 (2nd) PM. Rehearsals have started and the students are anxious to perform for you.

First Grade is singing "Classic" Disney so students can dress to remind us of their favorite movie friend. I'm not looking for complete costumes but bits and pieces that are reminiscent of more classic Disney characters. Some of our songs come from Peter Pan, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Mary Poppins and Sound of Music.

Second Grade is planning a "Pirate" theme so their music will be primarily pirate songs and sea shanties. Pirate attire is the dress needed here. Again, total costumes are not necessary. But just look around the house and see what you can find to enhance our theme. Type "pirate attire" into google and see what comes up. The possibilities are endless.

Be looking for a paper to come home in a couple weeks asking for parental assistance with our program. After you consider how you might help, you can just return the paper to school with your student. We thank you in advance for your help.

There will be more information coming home later. As always, we
appreciate your support!

Theatre Kids Camp

Brownsburg High School Drama Club will be hosting our annual Theatre Kids Camp on Saturday, February 6th.  Our theme this year is "LOST IN TIME."  If you know any students in grades 1-8 who love to act, create, sing, dance, & perform, please pass this information on to them and their parents.  A link to online registration (new this year!) can be found on our website https://sites.google.com/site/brownsburgtheatre/kids-camp along with more details and information.  A poster and registration form are also attached.

This is a great event every year for our high school student mentors as well as our theatre kid campers.  We end the day with a fun performance for all our family and friends!  The drama club officers even had a fun time making a promo video - if you want to take a look! https://youtu.be/ecEhr089DzE

Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for your support and for helping us spread the word!

Character Trait for FebruaryPerseverance

Our character trait for the month of February is PERSEVERANCE.  Perseverance means that you never give up and keep working hard.  "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.  The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time" (Thomas Edison).  I doubt there are many people who feel happy when  things don't work out as planned the first time around!  Sometimes that's just the way life goes!  For kids this might mean they don't win the basketball game, don't get the grade they wanted, or don't get an award or recognition they were hoping to receive.  It's important for us to let kids know that disappointment is a normal part of life--it happens.  It's not comfortable, but it's OK.  The good news is that we get to choose our attitude about it.  Are we going to let ourselves quit after a failure, or will it motivate us to try harder or find a different way to achieve our goals?  What keeps you from giving up?  What keeps your child from giving up?  This might be an interesting conversation to have at home as a follow up to our character trait lessons at school.
