Eagle Parents:

Welcome back and welcome to 2017!
As always with these amazing Eagle Students, they came back ready to work and did a great job this week! The teachers were very proud of how well the students jumped right back into routines and work habits! Way to go students and parents!

Many exciting events this 2nd semester. We will have Boomer kickoff our ISTEP Celebration next month, a Colts Camp, music performances, Kidzart, Running Club, ISTEP and Acuity Assessments, and our Valentine Day Parties all in the next couple of months!

January/Third nine weeks is historically the worst regarding student grades. This is due to the several factors including an ascending curriculum and new challenges however is also associated with the cold weather and habits. Many of our students seem to hit a speedbump this nine weeks before picking it back up in quarter 4. Please be aware of this and your continued support and reminders should be all they need for that little extra push. Also, extra sleep during these months is beneficial.

Don't forget report cards are accessible as of today! Have a great weekend!

Mr. H.

Other Events:

High Ability Identification for 2017-2018

Identification for High Ability programming for the next school year will begin later this month and be concluded by Spring Break. In 1st grade, students who met specific criteria on the CogAT administered in November, will proceed further in the identification process and parent permission will be required for further assessment which will occur in February. Results of the CogAT are available from the school counselor, if requested. Identification of 5th grade students for middle school placements will begin in February and parent permission will be required for Language Arts assessments. All 5th grade students will participate in math placement assessments. A parent whose child has not been recommended for the assessment process but has evidence of strong, high ability qualities/performance, should contact the school principal to discuss the appropriateness of assessment. Additional questions about about the High Ability program can be directed to Julie Van Liew, Coordinator of Curriculum and Special Programs at 852-5726.

Food Drive for BCSC Food Pantry
Did you know that BCSC has a food and clothing pantry that serves families within the school district? The pantry is located at 725-C South Green Street (door#7) and is open on the 1st,3rd,and 5th Thursdays of each month. Last year the pantry served over 1,000 families.

Eagle will be having a food drive from January 9-20 to help support our food pantry.  The class that brings the highest number of items will enjoy a sing-along with Mr. Hoover as he plays his guitar.

The food pantry is in need of:

  • hearty soups and stews
  • spices
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • deodorant
  • socks (adult and child sizes)

Thank you for helping our school community!

Counselor's Corner

January Character Trait:

Our character trait for the month is INTEGRITY. Integrity means doing what you are supposed to do even when no one is looking. Have you ever heard the saying "actions speak louder than words?" Others around us see what do and hear what we say, and this shapes what they think of us. We can show others that we have integrity by making good choices with what we say and what we do. Telling the truth isn't easy, but trying to regain trust after telling a lie is even more difficult.

The Vases will be used for a program called Random Acts of Flowers and will be donated to local hospitals. The Vases that are donated will be filled with flowers and then donated to patients that have extended hospital stays. Eagle will have a donation box in the Front Office.
