Eagle Parents:

Donuts with Dads:
A huge thank you to Amie Burress and the PSG for all the assistance this morning! We had many dads and grandads here to support the kids while grabbing a quick breakfast. We sincerely appreciate your generosity to our Relay for Life Team. We will be adding today's donations with next week as well as a few other events! The dads raised an amazing $1700 this morning! This includes the cost of the donuts (we hope you noticed we went to all Hilligoss donuts this year) as well as a few other small items so an amazing job. Moms: You are up next! I think this was a challenge!

ISTEP Progress:
Round one is over! Our kids did great and we thank you for all your help and support this week. We sometimes have to adjust the schedule which can be difficult for the teaches and kids but they handled it well. The 2nd round will begin on April 17.

Counselor's Corner

March Character Trait: ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance means recognizing and showing appreciation for our differences. Talk to your child about the benefits of having variety. For example, if your child only had one choice of what to play at recess every day, they might get bored. If they went to get ice cream and vanilla was the only choice, that wouldn't be much fun, either! Rather than seeing our differences with others as something to criticize or reasons to leave others out, we can see those differences as something to celebrate and learn more about.

News From The Nurse

COMING SOON: SPRINGTIME ALLERGIES

Just when you thought it was safe to go outside--It's allergy season again! Here are some tips to help you cope:

Keep your windows closed, especially at night. Pollen levels tend to be highest between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. If your child and other family members have seasonal allergies, run your air conditioner instead of opening windows.

Have your child take a shower and change his clothes after he gets home. Pollen can stick to clothing and hair. It's also a good idea to get into the habit of having everyone remove their shoes when they get indoors.

Keep track of pollen counts. If your child is sensitive, monitoring pollen levels can help you know when to limit outdoor exposure.

Change your air filters. Change the air filters in your heating systems and air conditioners as directed by manufacturers' instructions.

See your pediatrician. In some cases, what seems like an allergy to pollen may be caused by another culprit, such as dust mites or pet dander. The best way to pinpoint the allergen or allergens that are causing your child's symptoms is to have your child evaluated.

Try some saline. If you want to try a natural alternative to allergy medications, talk to your doctor about using saline nose drops and saline drops for eyes. They can help rinse pollen out of your child's nasal passages and eyes. (Be sure to use simple saline, rather than medicated nasal solutions or eye drops. You should talk to your pediatrician before using any over-the-counter products and use only products that are meant to treat seasonal allergy symptoms in children.)

Talk to your doctor about allergy medications. Depending on your child's age and symptoms, your doctor may recommend over-the-counter antihistamines specifically dosed to safely treat children.

Music Programs Coming
March 9, 2017

Parents, Grandparents, Friends and Neighbors,

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 9th when the
1st grade and 2nd grade music programs will be presented in the
Eagle Elementary gymnasium at 6:30 PM (1st) and 7:30 (2nd) PM.
Rehearsals have begun and the students are anxious to perform for you.

The First Grade program is titled "My Favorite Things" and uses the song of the same title from "The Sound of Music" as the theme song. Other songs like "How Much is that Doggie in the Window?" and "On Top of Spaghetti" are two examples of songs that express some of the things that our first graders really enjoy and will be expressing through their songs. Students should dress in colorful outfits. Spring will be on our minds by that time and the children should be an expression of spring color and fashion. Specific colors are not required.

Second Grade's theme is "Keep American Singing" with a focus on early American Folksongs and Spirituals. Students should dress in neat and clean blue jeans or other dark pants (not sweat pants) and shirts with patriotic symbols or just plain red, white and blue. You could accent your outfit with a bandana around the neck if desired. Our songs are folk tunes and spirituals from early American history. Look around the house and see what you can find to enhance our theme. We are not looking for any specific costume.

Finally, please be looking for a paper to come home in mid-February asking for parental assistance with our program. After you consider how you might help, you can just return the paper to school with your student. We thank you in advance for your help.

There will be more information coming home later. As always, we appreciate your support!
