Hello from Mr. Hoover:

Eagle Parents:

The 2015 Fun Run is in the books! What a great day! Possibly my favorite day of the year at school other than the first day of school! It was very hot and humid, but the kids did great! Each grade level had 30 minutes to walk and run many laps while listening to the latest songs! I think some students even figured out how to run and dance at the same time!  A huge thank you goes out to all the Eagle Parents, the Eagle PSG, and all the volunteers who gave their time today.

Special recognition to the Eagle PSG Officers and Christina Hill for yet again putting on a phenomenal Fun Run.  Also, many thanks to Mr. Knobel for the use of his generator for our music!  All of your contributions is what makes this day work!  In two weeks, we will have our Fun Run Celebration!

Have an amazing Labor Day weekend! Tonight is BJFL night at the BHS football game so hopefully you can start your weekend off by cheering on the Bulldogs!

   Have a great weekend!

Mr. H.

**Correction from last week:  The student ambassadors for Mrs. Pacey are Henry Prucinsky and Ella McCloud! We had an error in the spelling! Way to go kiddos!

Yankee Candle Sale Begins September 11th
The 15th Annual Yankee Candle fundraiser for the Brownsburg Education Foundation (BEF) is around the corner.  On Friday, September 11th, each student will receive a catalog to share with family and friends. The best and easiest way to order is online and you will find the instructions for sending the link for online ordering to your family and friends in the packet. Online orders will be delivered directly to the one ordering by mail in 2-3 weeks. If the paper order form is used, the order form and money need to be returned by September 28th to Reagan. You will have to pick up and distribute anything ordered using the paper order form on November 10th & 11th at the BCSC Maintenance Facility at 550 Airport Road.  Proceeds from this fundraiser go toward teacher educational grants and student scholarships that are given out each year by the BEF whose mission is to encourage and support creativity, innovation, and excellence that will enhance the educational community of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation.

Kelso's Choice:  Solving Conflicts

Just as we have common character traits at all elementary schools, all BCSC elementary students also learn how to solve conflicts using Kelso's Choice.   The philosophy behind Kelso's Choice is that students are smart enough and strong enough to solve
small problems on their own.   For big problems, students should tell an adult they trust.   For small problems, students will be asked to try at least 2 of Kelso's Choices before going to an adult.   Kelso the Frog is the program's mascot.

The 9 options for solving small problems include:

· Go to another game

· Talk it out

· Make a deal

· Apologize

· Walk away

· Wait and cool off

· Share and take turns

· Ignore it

· Tell them to stop

Having 9 choices gives students many options when trying to solve problems, since some choices will work better than others depending on the situation.  Students will be encouraged to try using Kelso's Choice at home and other places they go, too!

Bully Prevention at Eagle Elementary School

This past week Mrs. Rose reviewed bully prevention with all Eagle students.  Research has shown that bullying can have significant short-term and long-term effects on kids' health, so we take our responsibility seriously when we teach students how to handle bullying if it would happen to them and the importance of their role in preventing bullying altogether.  Our rules to prevent bullying state that:

·         We will not bully others.

·         We help students who are bullied

·         We will include students who are easily left out.

·         When we know somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home

College Go Week

During the week of September 21 - 25 we will celebrate College Go Week at all BCSC elementary schools.  We'll incorporate our character trait of RESPONSIBILITY as we work on making a connection between responsibilities at home, within the school, and for the future.  Right now each Eagle Elementary child has the job to be the best student they can be, and many of their responsibilities now are similar to those they will need when they join the workforce: Being on time, getting their work done, working well with others, etc.  Building good work habits now will give kids the foundation they need to be successful as they grow.

RESPONSIBILTY means that we are accountable for what we say and do:  We have to "own" our actions and words.

Cafeteria News

Don't have time for breakfast?   We offer breakfast every morning, the cost is $1.45 and $0.30 for those who qualify for reduced meals.  Please come join us for a nutritious breakfast, studies show that students who eat breakfast can focus and learn better.

Crayola ColorCycle
Dear Parents,
Eagle Elementary is excited to tell you about a very special program at our school in conjunction with Crayola. It's called Crayola ColorCycle - an amazing new program devised to turn used markers into energy!
Eagle Elementary students and teachers will be partnering with West Middle School to collect used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!
Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house - even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school for your child to deposit the markers.
Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
Remember, don't throw out that used marker-ColorCycle it!
