Mr. Roberts captured his 10th grade American Literature students researching and preparing for their first debate that was held on August 19: "The (In)Justice System." Pictured are opposing teams working collaboratively to prepare their offense and defense arguments.

Mr. Roberts facilitated his students in understanding that since they were engaging in the divisive topic of police brutality, they had to understand that the debate itself was about the information and not necessarily about how they felt. Not one time did a student make disrespectful or disruptive comments or gestures. Each team genuinely listened and responded to the other team. Mr. Robert feels many of them are beginning to see the topic in a new light, and he is excited to see what their final opinions will be on Monday, August 23.
