Greetings everyone,

We are delighted to announce the release of our new API. This first release offers more than double the amount of functions than our previous API and upcoming releases will offer at least 20 more functions. The new API will provide publishers with even more control of the correlation process and uses modern conventions and formats, accompanied by detailed documentation. Our goal is to give our clients the opportunity to use the same methods that the EdGate Correlation Services team uses for their 250+ publishing clients, without the challenge of having to manage the data internally. For more information on our API specs, please see the full article below.

As always, EdGate is your source for staying current with new developments in education and the impact of educational standards.

Regards,

FAA Certification Standards Added to EdGate Repository

We've just added the Federal Aviation Administration Remote Pilot - Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Airman Certification Standards to our repository at the request of a client. Though rather specialized, this breaks new ground for us as we broaden the range of standards we can correlate to. With CTE gaining increasing importance and the proliferation of content intended to address this area, professional certification standards (including drone technology!) are growing in importance.

CTE Funding
The federal government funds CTE programs in the United States through the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. Funds are distributed to states (2017 allocations by states can be found in the table at the end of  this document ),  who then provide it to school districts by methods that vary from state to state. Private funding also exists, but the foundations that provide it tend to focus on higher education, but are worth exploring, e.g. Carnegie Foundation and The Wallace Foundation.

More information can be found in this interview which also has some useful links for further exploration.

OER: new requirements on Ed funded resources
The U.S. Department of Education's  new open licensing rule
has gone into effect.  Beginning in FY 2018, education resources created with Department of Education discretionary competitive grants ($4.2 billion in FY 2016) must be openly licensed and shared with the public.  Creative Commons (CC) congratulates the U.S. Department of Education for ensuring the public has access to the education resources it funds.

EdGate has been housing and aligning vetted web based educational resources to standards for almost 20 years in its Curriculum Matrix®With over 500,000 grade specific resources aligned to US state, national and international standards in our repository, the repository is great for teachers, home school parents and publishers needing to fill gaps in their curriculum.  These  educational resources include a mixture of free and OER course materials, lessons, streaming videos, interactive games, assessments, quizzes and more.  It can be a powerful tool for educators that are looking for supplemental and diverse material to enhance their curriculum.

New York's Next Generation Learning Standards
Two years in the making and New York State released their newly revised English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards. The changes were a touted as a departure from the Common Core learning standards and with the revisions came a new name: The Next Generation English Language Arts and Mathematics Learning Standards.

Input from teachers, parents and the public was used in drafting the revised standards which after being released was open to public comment until June 2nd. The state explained the process resulted in substantive changes to both subjects.

Critics so far have criticized the English Language Arts revisions and claim the standards "weaken or muddy major requirements in reading and writing"

The state Board of Regents were expected to have a final vote on the standards this month but the vote has been postponed so more to come on if/when these new standards will be finalized. We will be keeping an eye out and our ears open for new developments!

California students go online in record numbers to take Common Core-aligned tests, with few glitches
