Volunteer News
April 2017

Over the past year, the Education Project has worked with nearly 500 families across Washtenaw county who are experiencing housing instability.
That means that the program has served over 1,000 youth by supplying close to:

500 backpacks filled with school supplies and toiletries

250 vouchers for new shoes or clothing

400 sets of socks and underwear

200 coordinated transportation services

And so much more!

We couldn't continue to serve our families without the diligent hard work of our volunteers. From packing backpacks, to organizing supplies, you serve a key invaluable role in the continued success of our program!

Thank you for all that you do!

On March 7th, more than 50 school personnel and youth service providers came together to learn about and engage with the Education Project at our Lunch and Learn session!

The session touched on definitions of homelessness, eligibility, available services and supports through the Education Project, as well as resources provided by other partner organizations.

The communication and collaboration that resulted from the event will help to ensure the educational success of all young people in out community.
As the end of the school year is fast approaching, graduation is on the horizon for many of our students.  The Education Project is looking forward to providing support and commendation during this exciting time!

This year, we have 70 seniors, and we want to provide each of them with a $25 graduation gift card. Please consider purchasing gift cards to the following places: Kroger, Meijer, Walmart, Burger King, Dominos, Taco Bell, Wendy's, McDonald's, and Subway. These cards will be hand-delivered to all of our graduating seniors.

Gift cards can be mailed or dropped off to:

The Education Project

The Education Project, sometimes known as the Education Project for Homeless Youth, is designed to ensure that students experiencing homelessness or unstable living situations enroll, regularly attend, and succeed in school.  Under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, students who are homeless must have equal access to free and appropriate public education

The Education Project works closely with liaisons in the school districts, allies within each school, community partners, and families to identify and serve all youth affected by homelessness.
