THE LIVING CHURCH |
|
All Saints' Organ Project Featured in Church Publication
This week, All Saints' Organ Project was the cover story in "The Living Church" magazine.
The Living Church is a biweekly magazine, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that offers commentary and news information on the Episcopal Church in the United States.
"The Living Church article is amazing exposure for our Church and our organ project," said The Reverend Ryan D. Newman. "Throughout the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion, readers will learn of All Saints' goal to restore Kauai's only pipe organ and our vision to be a catherdal for the people of Kauai."
Copies of the article will be available at the entrance of the Church.

STUDENT JOURNALISM SHINES |

Telling the Story of Laundry Love
This past fall, students from Kapaa Middle School, including All Saints' Raiden
Kurisu, created a short documentary film on Laundry Love Kauai. Their feature was selected to air on Hiki Nō.
Hiki Nō
(which is the Hawaiian phrase for "Can Do") is a PBS Hawaii Learning Initiative that mentors middle and high schoolers from public, charter, and private schools throughout the state of Hawaii as they create PBS-quality video stories about themselves and their communities. Stories that meet PBS standards are compiled into a weekly half-hour program that airs statewide on PBS Hawaii and worldwide on pbshawaii.org.
To view the feature on Laundry Love, click on the video link above or
here
. Also, check out the postscript feature on
Hiki Nō
which gives a behind-the-scenes look at Raiden and classmates producing their feature. To view the behind-the-scenes piece, click here.

This month's special collection for Hale Ho'omalu is canned items: soups, chili, pork & beans, Spam and Vienna Sausage. Hale Ho'omalu also needs and appreciates monetary donations as well as gift-in-kind items.
Every Sunday, all gift-in-kind items can be left in the red wagon at the Church's entrance.

Spirit of Celebration
Graduation season is upon us. This month's Saturday Market, Saturday, May 14, 9:00AM - 2:00PM, celebrates our graduates and invites vendors who make leis. As always, the market will also include talented crafters and delicious food vendors for a wonderful day of shopping and eating.
The Saturday Market features Kauai's finest crafters, a large inventory of "Made on Kauai" products, specialty items and services, and locally grown produce. In addition, the swap meet portion of the market allows members of the community to sell their used household items, clothing, tools, sports equipment, and much more.

PENTECOST SUNDAY |

May 15th: Celebrate the Spirit
The Feast of Pentecost is Sunday, May 15th.
Pentecost is a Greek word meaning 'fiftieth day;' for Christians, it corresponds to the fiftieth day after Easter. It is the celebration of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the first Apostles as described in the second chapter of the Acts of the Apostles.
Special music is planned for the 9:30AM service. We invite everyone to wear red to Church on Pentecost Day.

GALATIANS: LIVE BY THE SPIRIT |
|
Summer Spiritual Education and Formation Program
At the beginning of Pentecost, All Saints' will host a six-part Bible Study and Sermon Series, "Live by the Spirit", based on Paul's Epistle to the Galatians.
Beginning on Tuesday, May 24, Father Ryan will facilitate a Bible study that will study the upcoming Sunday's reading from the Epistle. In addition, the group will consider the overall themes and
messages
of Paul's letter to the Church at Galatia. The group will also help to shape the sermon for Sunday.
The Bible study will be hosted at the Rectory from 6:30PM - 7:30PM in a comfortable, informal setting.
We are asking individuals to sign-up for the Bible study and (ideally) commit to attending
all
six of the studies and Sundays in the series. The Bible study will have a 12 person limit.

These news briefs were featured in previous issues of "The Epistle"
Saturday Work Days
The Buildings and Grounds Committee announced the next three months' Saturday workdays; May 21, June 25, and July 16. Saturday work days begin at 8:00AM and conclude no later than 12:00PM. Volunteers are not required to stay the whole time, but it is always helpful. For May 21st, volunteers will pressure wash and refinish the Rectory's fence. In addition, there will be numerous tasks focused on cleaning, organizing, and beautifying the Church. Saturday Workdays are vital to the stewardship and preservation of our All Saints' Campus. There are jobs for all ages and all abilities. Workdays can be a wonderful family-centered activity. We need the "power of our 'Ohana" to tackle the many vital jobs to make All Saints' shine for and in service to the Glory of God!

Easter Sermon Series
For the first five Sundays after Easter Day, Father Ryan offered a five-part sermon series, "Proclaiming the Risen Lord: 21st Century Discipleship." The sermon series studied how we embody and proclaim the Risen Christ in and to a complex and turbulent world. The sermons offered practical applications for being modern-day disciples of the Easter message, both as individuals and as a community of God's people. To listen to the sermons, click here.
