The Month of May
Devoted to Our Blessed Mother
Behold your mother.

Wishing a very happy and blessed Mother's Day to all of our mothers and to all who enrich our lives with maternal love, care and support.

Happy Mother's Day!

"When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son."  Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his home."  Jn 19:26-27

Spring and a Prayer

Spring has finally sprung! There is much to celebrate and enjoy during this month of May, from holy days to national holidays, and of course, the beauty of nature and all of God's creation.

Today, May 3rd, is  National Day of Prayer an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for our nation. It started in 1952. This year's theme is "unity". Click to learn more.

May 10th is the  Feast of the Ascension , a holy day of obligation.   Join us for the Vigil Mass on  Wednesday, May 9th at 5pm or on Ascension Thur sday, May 10th at 7am, 9am* or 5pm.

*Saint Paul School Mass and May Crowning. All are welcome.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 13th.   Mother's Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Click for an amusing video on the origins of the day from the History Channel. Are the days of personal hand-written letters long gone?

Mother Mary

Catholics refer to Mary by many different titles and honor her on several special days throughout the year.

Chris Stephanic gives a clear and powerful answer.

Would you be able to explain, perhaps to a non-Catholic friend, what we as Catholics believe about Mary?   Hint: She  leads us to Jesus.

Throughout history, the Church has 'approved' several apparitions of the Virgin Mary:  Fatima  (Portugal),  Knock  (Ireland),and  Guadalupe  (Mexico).  Believers come from all over the world to visit these holy sites and to pray to Our Lady.

Today, countless numbers of faithful pilgrims continue to flock to a small town in Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina where they believe Our Lady has continually appeared since 1981 with a message asking us to re-center our lives on God through prayer, fasting, and confession

[The Church investigation into the apparitions at Medjugorje are ongoing; it has neither approved nor denied the authenticity of the events at this time.]

One of the best devotions we have to honor Mary is the Holy Rosary. The word rosary means a garland of roses, as the rose is one of the flowers used to symbolize the Virgin Mary. Families are encouraged to Pray the Rosary together, perhaps even just one decade together each day to start.

Our parish has many opportunities to pray the Rosary together:
  • Weekdays 7:30am (after 7am Mass) at St. Paul Church
  • 13th of the Month at Noon at St. Paul Church
  • Wednesdays 6:00pm at Sacred Heart Church
  • Children's Rosary at Sacred Heart, 1st Saturday of each month at 10am

Fun and Games

Like a weed that suddenly pops up in the middle of the sidewalk, here are a few random items...

First, a few words about every mom's favorite topic, video games.

Are your children addicted to Fortnite? You are not alone. Take heart and read  'Parenting the Fortnite Addict'  by psychologist Dr. Lisa Damour.

Wondering if a particular game is appropriate?

Not sure if Fortnite or any other game is appropriate for your child?   Check out  Plugged In a Focus on the Family publication that offers "detailed information about what's really in popular movies, videos, television episodes, songs and games."   Plugged In gives Fortnight a "T" rating for Teen.  Click for the full description .

Finally, on the outside chance that both you and your child share a love of rap music, this video is a must see...

Here's some feedback from our parishioners about First Communion:

Hi, I just wanted to take the time to tell Father Robert what a wonderful First Communion Mass he held today. Our entire family remarked at what a wonderful church we have.  There were tears in their eyes when you spoke of entering the church family again and how we will accept anyone into St. Paul's as "we are all sinners just trying to find our way home."

On Facebook:
God bless all our 3rd graders and a HUGE thank you to the photographers!! Pictures came out Great!

Dear Father Robert,
I wanted to thank you and Robin and the entire staff for giving us a wonderful First Holy Communion this past Sunday.... What a beautiful service... Thank you for giving us such a wonderful memory of this beautiful day. God Bless you.
