2018 ALACHUA COUNTY CITIZENS ACADEMY SPRING CLASSES
The public is invited to sign up for the Alachua County Citizens Academy classes, beginning on April 5, 2018. The Citizens Academy offers residents an opportunity to participate in behind-the-scenes tours, hear presentations, and interact with elected officials and staff from the Board of County Commissioners, Constitutional Officers, the Judiciary, the Library District and the Alachua County Public Schools. Each Citizens Academy graduating class is made up of citizens who walk away with a good understanding of how these entities operate.  Get more information and register.

Firefighter for a Day Event 
Alachua County Fire Rescue is holding their third annual Firefighter for a Day event on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Loften High School (3000 East University Avenue, Gainesville). The event is free and open to adults and children of all ages. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.   Read more about it.


Art Council of Alachua County Vacancies
Alachua County is seeking volunteers to fill seven at-large and one alternate vacancy on the Arts Council of Alachua County. Those interested should submit applications by March 2, 2018.  Learn more .

Clerk of Court Offers Juror Donation Program
The Alachua County Clerk of the Court J.K. "Jess" Irby has launched a "Juror Donation Program." The program allows jurors the option of donating their juror compensation. All donations are distributed to the Guardian Ad Litem Program and the Peaceful Paths domestic violence shelter.  Learn more .

County Awarded Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program Grant
Alachua County has been awarded a Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program (HLMP) grant by the Florida Division of Emergency Management to assist with hardening or retrofitting single-family homes within Alachua County. This program is not designed to repair homes, but to protect and strengthen homes against strong wind forces such as hurricanes, tropical storms, etc. to aid in minimizing damages.  Learn more .

Alachua County Youth Fair and Livestock Show
The Alachua County Youth Fair and Livestock Show Association is pleased to announce the upcoming Alachua County Youth Fair and Livestock Show. The event is on March 1, through March 6, at the Alachua County Fairgrounds. The event is free.  Learn more .
