Our Savior's This Week

Dear Church,

I grew up in the construction business; specifically, the concrete business.  It used to bewilder me when my dad said that "Concrete comes with a three-part guarantee: It's going to turn white, it's going to get hard, and it's going to crack!"  Years later I would come to realize that my dad was covering his backside!  When customers called and said, "My sidewalk has a crack in it", he could remind them about the guarantee.

Over the past summer months, a Long Range Planning Task Force gathered with the purpose of imagining what Our Savior's Lutheran Church would look like on Rally Sunday, 2017.  That's five years from now!  And while nobody in this world has a crystal ball to tell us such things, the Task Force was comprised of eleven people who knew this church well, loved this church deeply, and were willing to prayerfully consider our purpose.  The result of our work is now available in a document entitled "On the Road to 2017". It is being released today, after having been discussed by the Board in September.  You'll be able to find it at www.oslcstillwater.org by clicking on "About Us" and then choosing "Our Long Range Plan" (or click here).  It is the Board's wish and my desire that we can set aside two Open Forums in January to talk about this document.

Allow me to give you a heads-up as to what the document SAYS and what it DOES NOT SAY.  It has no guarantees, no certainties, and no ultimatum proposals.  What it does say is that WE BELIEVE that Our Savior's Lutheran Church will grow in size, grow in depth, and grow in faith and in wisdom.  Oh, it also says that we're not sure a new sanctuary will be built, and that we'd like a driveway to Myrtle Street, and maybe a small fellowship hall and some additional classrooms.  But in the end, it is up to the members of this church to make these - and other - important decisions.

What I know for sure is this: I am both pleased and proud to share this journey with you.  God knows the plans he has for us; we have been called and gathered to ensure their reality.

See you in Church!
