Yes, this is an annual appeal letter. We do hope you will have fun reading it and be moved to help us, if you can! Grab a cup of coffee, hot chocolate or whatever makes you feel joyful and take a moment to learn more about some circus dreams. Thank you!

At Circus Harmony, we make dreams come true and we give people opportunities. In a world where people are doing so much 'virtually' on digital devices, the circus is a place of real accomplishments.  In the circus ring, people don't just pretend to be brave, strong, flexible, and amazing- they actually are!  When a five-year-old does a forward roll, a ten-year-old walks a tightwire, a seventeen-year-old juggles nine objects, an eighty-six-year-old hangs from a trapeze... you see the joy in their faces! They are beaming!  Their joy radiates out to the audience.

Circus is about the soaring achievement of the human body, mind and spirit. It is about realizing the archetypal human dream of transcending physical limitations. At Circus Harmony, our students not only defy gravity they also defy labels put on them by society. Our students and our audience see that your race, religion, school or neighborhood do not define you. It doesn't matter if you are autistic or have ADD. What matters is what you bring to the ring. We all dream of accomplishing incredible feats. It is a dream that comes true at Circus Harmony.

Learning and performing circus arts makes children feel like they can accomplish anything while it teaches them to use their bodies and minds in strong, positive ways. We help children grow into confident, capable adults who know they can accomplish whatever they set their minds to do. We also help them find and follow opportunities for the next chapters of their lives.

While we are not primarily a pre-professional program, we are immensely proud of our alumni who have  gone on to professional circus schools and jobs: Sidney 'Iking' Bateman, Melvin Diggs, Keaton Hentoff-Killian and Terrance 'T-Roc' Robinson are all attending prestigious circus schools in Canada; Renaldo Williams graduated from one of these schools, cole Nationale du Cirque, this summer and has already toured to France, Australia and Russia; Claire Kuciejczyck-Kernan is a senior at Florida State University and walking wire with the world-famous Flying Wallendas; Matt Viverito graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University and this summer caught the legendary triple somersault with the Flying Pages trapeze act (and is helping us open the Circus Harmony Flying Trapeze Center); and Elliana Grace was the youngest-ever human cannonball on Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus!  We are equally proud of the alumni who are taking the non-circus world by storm: Meghan Clark is attending Lawrence University and Max Pepose is at NYU; Tiffany Harris is a teacher in the St. Louis Public School System; and Tiffarnish Lewis works for the St. Louis comptroller's office and teaches for Circus Harmony part time!

There is another young man whose circus dreams were starting to come true: after spending the summer touring with Zopp Family Circus, Reggie Moore had returned to St. Louis to train with us in preparation for the circus school auditions in Canada. He was on his way to a juggling practice when, late this past October, he was killed in a tragic car accident. Reggie was one of our greatest success stories. In the words of someone who met Reggie at a youth circus festival, "You not only pursued your own dreams, but you helped others accomplish theirs." Reggie was a large young man--- over 6'4"--- but he learned to flip and fly. His enthusiasm and perseverance showed others that almost anything is possible, if you work for it! By pursuing his own circus dreams, Reggie inspired countless people to go after theirs. The testaments to this have been pouring into our mailbox and onto Facebook since his untimely passing.

Like many of our students, Reggie would not have been able to discover his place in the circus without our Flying Children Scholarship Fund. We can think of no better way to honor his passing than by helping other students to do the beautiful work that he did: to realize dreams, surmount challenges and inspire others.

We are a social circus school. We work to build character and expand community for youth of all ages, cultures, abilities and backgrounds. While children are learning to flip, fly and fling at Circus Harmony, they learn important life skills like focus, persistence and teamwork; they meet children and work with adults from different backgrounds than their own; they learn how to present themselves in public. Perhaps most importantly, they receive the priceless opportunity to pursue and realize their dreams.

We hope you will decide to support our dream-fulfilling, gravity-defying work today. You can choose to contribute to our special Reggie Moore Memorial Scholarship, to our Flying Children Scholarship Fund, to Peace Through Pyramids (our ongoing partnership with the Jewish/Arab Galilee Circus in Israel), to the Circus Harmony Showcase and Teacher Training Program, to the new Circus Harmony Flying Trapeze Center or to our general operating costs-whichever cause is closest to your heart. We know there is a lot to choose from, but that's because we have a lot of good work to do!  Whatever you support, you will be helping to make a child's dream come true, and the realization of that dream will inspire others in deep and meaningful ways.

Thank you.

Defy Gravity!
