Learning for Growth
The Global WIAL forum invites you to India on 6-8 November. This event in "Incredible India" will be a fantastic opportunity to further develop your Action Learning skills, experience the WIAL global community of coaches, interact  with international business leaders and consider critical issues relating to our profound 'Learning for Growth' theme. Click here for more information.
What clients say
South-Africa's TRANSNET, a state-owned company managing the country's rail, port and pipeline infrastructure, developed a leadership development program with the Gordon Institute for Business Science at the Pretoria University. Action Learning was a key component of this program, and the four projects that the participant teams worked on delivered measurable performance improvement for the organization. Click here to read a very complete overview of the leadership program and the Action Learning part.
To intervene or not to intervene ... ?
That remains often the question, even for experienced coaches. Sometimes a coach wants to help a team that is struggling, but can take away from the team's development for independence. Master Action Learning Coach Choon Seng Ng shares his experience in "the Art of Intervention". Click here to learn from the Masters.
Focus on WIAL-USA
How do you promote Action Learning, and propose continued development for coaches, in a country that is as big as the USA ? A dynamic network of chapters is the solution. Dr. Bea Carson shares some information about how the USA chapter system works. Click here to discover.
Leading with Questions
Dr. Michael Marquardt published a 2nd edition of the successful Leading With Questions. He explains the main reasons for updating this book, and what new information can be found in the 2014 edition. Click here to find out why Leading With Questions is even more valuable today than it was first published nearly ten years ago.
News from the WIAL board
In each newsletter, we explain in a bit more detail the role of the different committees that work on a particular topic, and report to the WIAL board. Click here to find out what the Certification Committee takes care of !
Why are AL groups so creative ?
When researchers looked at how groups are creative, and evaluated in particular the way Pixar's teams work to come up with new ideas, most of what they describe bears the hallmarks that Action Learning brings to problem solving. Click here to read Michael Marquardt's summary of the findings.
Choosing Change
Two of WIAL's board members, Walter McFarland and Susan Goldsworthy recently explained in a live webinar the core ideas from their recent book Choosing Change. Click here to read a write-up of the webinar, by Susan, as well as a few thoughts from one of the participants. You will also find the link for the recording so you can watch and listen anytime you wish.
Voulez-vous Action Learning ?
Action Learning sets are best conducted in the native language of the participants. WIAL France discovered the challenge around language and Jean-Michel Cramier and Daniel Belet decided to write a small book about Action Learning - in French. Even the term "ACTION LEARNING" translates quite difficultly. A question to all AL communities around the world: "How do you translate Action Learning in your local language ?". Send your answers by email so we can compile and share in a future newsletter edition.
