Commodity Updates

ALERT! APPLES
We are a month away from new crops in Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington.
The current storage crop of Red Delicious looks to get extremely limited as we finish up the storage season. Start dates for new crop red delicious apples are not until mid-September. Quality remains really good with decent pressure left in the storage crop and good sugar content.

AVOCADOS

Hass avocados from Mexico are at the end of the fourth and final bloom of their season. Avos at this time of year are very plentiful, but oil content is very high-- meaning they ripen FAST. We recommend keeping them refrigerated as short exposure to summer temperatures may cause them to ripen and turn black quickly.

We expect first bloom avocados (known as flora loca) to arrive in the next couple weeks. This fruit will be stubborn to ripen due to low oil content.

Check out these AvocaDOs and DON'Ts from Mission. Also, feel free to reach out to your account manger with any questions during this transition.

CAULIFLOWER

Abundant supplies; good quality; competitive pricing.

CITRUS

ALERT! LEMONS:  For the next couple of weeks, you will see increase pricing due to industry-wide demand exceeding supply. Domestic production in California is nearly finish and importers of off-shore lemons are still waiting for increased volumes (around the end of July). Off-shore crop reports are indicating lighter volumes and larger sizing. Click here for details.

ORANGES: California Valencia harvest is moving at a steady pace. Quality is good. Demand is strong

 BERRIES

PEAK SEASON! BLUEBERRIES:  Abundant supplies; excellent quality and prices.

ALERT! STRAWBERRIES:  Due to recent heat, strawberries are showing darker color and soft fruit. Supplies are limited; markets are higher.

PEAK SEASON! STONE FRUITS

Stone fruit are in their peak season. Smaller fruit is tougher to find as everything being harvested currently is much larger than we have seen earlier in the season. Plum prices have finally come off, and the market feels fairly stable and will continue to be so, for the foreseeable future. Quality is excellent.
