Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drillsbegan in southern California in 2008, and have grown to include participation in every state and territory, as well as to many other countries. Nearly 20 million people participated across the U.S. in 2017, including more than 400,000 healthcare sector participants in hospitals, clinics, and other facilities.
The basic action of ShakeOut is to practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” Many organizations conduct more comprehensive tests of their emergency plan, such as tabletop discussions or full scale community operational exercises.
