January was a record month for us. We kicked off our 1st annual city wide clothing drive, Make Space for Good, with great results. So many enthusiastic people donated thousands of clothes and accessories! And SAS donated nearly 1,700 pairs of shoes! That's starting 2017 on the right foot!

The drive has taught us that so many people care about the work we provide, but so many people still do not fully understand the scope of our work. We truly are more than the DRESS, we are all about SUCCESS. Our volunteers, our donors, our staff, our board members, and YOU contribute to that success and we couldn't love you more for it.

Volunteers are the heart of Dress for Success San Antonio. They allow us to provide more assistance to our clients, and help our  organization in ways that our small staff can't do alone. While we have many notable volunteers, Valarie Paez is our highlight this month.

Looking for an opportunity to "give back," she found Dress for Success San Antonio in 2011 and has volunteered with the Professional Women's Group (PWG) since that time. Volunteering has been a very rewarding and fulfilling experience for Valarie: celebrating the success stories of clients, nurturing the growth of the organization, and assisting during the annual clothing sales event. She helps with registration, networking, wardrobe-building, set-up and clean-up; even doing the dishes when necessary. The joy of giving fulfills Valarie's heart.

 

It does our hearts good to have exceptional volunteers like Valarie. Thank you Valarie!

 

About Valarie Paez

Valarie is a native of Alabama, but has been a resident of San Antonio since 2000. She wasn't born in Texas, but as she would say, "I got here as fast as I could." Her background experience includes more than 25 years in retail and human resource management experience and 10 years in real estate.
