This month marks International Day of Peace on September 21 and this year's theme is "The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace."
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are the 15-year goals that build on the Millennium Development Goals, address poverty, hunger, health, education, human rights, and the environment. As the UN states, "development and peace are interdependent and mutually reinforcing." In these turbulent times, I want to thank our volunteers, sponsors, and donors for their support of HVO's work to improve global health and development, which contributes toward a more peaceful world.
In our 30th anniversary year, HVO will be celebrating the work of our volunteers in many ways. Start looking through the many photos you have taken on assignments as our next photo contest is just around the corner!
In late August, we celebrated HVO volunteer and former Board Chair, Julia Plotnick, as she celebrated her 80th birthday. Rear Admiral Plotnick has had a lifetime of service in global nursing and her impact has been considerable. To extend that service opportunity to others, we hope you will honor Julia and show your support for nursing education through a gift to the
Plotnick Nursing Education Volunteer Fund.
Sincerely,
Nancy
