Monthly Newsletter
February 2017

It's hard to believe we've already been through the first month of the New Year!  We hope January was a great kick off to 2017 for you and we look forward to the great things God has in store for Haygood in February and beyond.

As we enter into February, hints of Spring are already in the air.  Along with some of the trees around our homes and church campus already having buds on them, our ministries are beginning to bud new and exciting activities and events!  This month we have many things to look forward to, including Communion Sunday on February 5th, Scout Sunday on February 12th, the continuation of our Wednesday Night Suppers, Vacation Bible School (VBS) registration opening, small group Covenant Bible studies, volleyball registration, the Weekday Children's Ministry (WCM) auction, and so many other opportunities for you to get involved in the life of Haygood and this community.

While we look forward to February, there are praises and joys we should celebrate from January.  In January, Haygood warmly welcomed Dr. Tommy Green, as our interim pastor, while Dr. Sheila Bookout began her renewal leave.  In addition, we welcomed nine new members to the Haygood church family and were blessed by the smile of Catherine Santa Barbara, as she was baptized and welcomed to the Haygood family.  In addition, the Church Leadership teams met as a large group to kick-off the New Year and discuss our goals as a church for 2017.  The energy and enthusiasm the conversations created should make us all excited for what is to come in 2017!

Finally, as we all know February is the month of love!  And the staff at Haygood wants to express how grateful we are for your love, support, and commitment.  We are a blessed community, filled with love for each other and love for God.  We pray as we move through this new month that God's love and spirit moves freely through us all and into this community.

May February be filled with blessings for you and may we continue to be a light of peace and love to others as we  connect, explore, and make an impact with each of you and the community!  Blessings friends!

Covenant Study
Covenant Bible Study - Classes Continue in February!

The Bible speaks in more than one voice. It contains many conversations and perspectives inviting us to join a discussion that began with creation in Genesis and extends to our coffee shops, offices, schools and dinner tables.

Covenant Bible Study is one way to connect with the deepest realities of our faith. Its goal is to cultivate a lifelong trust in God and help us discover the Bible as a friend for life. Covenant is based on the simple idea that we live well when we love well. When we read the Bible together, we remember and retell the deepest story we know. This is the story of who we are, where we come from, and where we go wrong.

It is a study in which you are invited to read and discuss the Bible together, learning how to love God - and each other - better. Covenant represents a relationship - a living, breathing conversation. And, we invite you to join in it. Groups are invited to meet weekly for 8 weeks.

What Is It?   The material is reflective of the Disciple program, but addresses some of the barriers to participation. The program offers 3 8-week segments, the segments can be done in one hour, and the Bible work is not as massive or intense. Its focus is on our Biblical story and as people of that story, how do we fit in and order our lives.

How Much Work Is Involved?  There is a daily Scripture reading and a paragraph offering up ways to reflect and engage the reading. You are invited to dig deeper if you wish with access to additional videos.

When Do The Groups Meet?
6:00 Saturday Night - Sheila Bookout
9:45  Sunday Morning - Danny Morris, Wally Rice, Harrison Kohler
6:00  Sunday Night - Wally Rice
10:00  Tuesday Morning - Sheila Bookout
10:00  Tuesday Morning - Connie Morris
6:00 Wednesday Night - Todd Stanton

The 2017 Youth Winter Retreat was a great time for the youth this year.  The kids went to Camp Baldwin in southern Alabama.  The weekend was filled with great fellowship, worship, and time together as friends.  We look forward to seeing all the youth at our next retreat (and all the activities in between).

Confirmation Spring Retreat - March 3rd-5th!  Mark Your Calendars!

Hey Confirmation Youth!  Our retreat is right around the corner.  We will be going to Camp Glisson in Dahlonega from March 3rd-5th.  This retreat is a great time to gather and learn, as well have a great time with other youth in Confirmation.  At the retreat, you'll gather with youth groups from other churches around the conference and learn about the connectedness as well as the diversity of our beloved denomination, but at the same time you'll concentrate on your own group and how God continues to give us direction and calling.  If you have any questions, please contact Taylor Kaiser.
