Hello friends,

Hope you all had a great Memorial Day holiday weekend! I had a nice, relaxing weekend with friends and family in beautiful East Hampton and can taste Summer! But I don't want to rush things. Our boys end school next week, and head off to camp in 3-1/2 weeks. I know they'll have a wonderful time, but I will miss them tremendously! So I'm trying to enjoy and make the most of each and every day we have as a family until then.

In this week's ZIED GUIDE, you'll learn how to make more healthful decisions when it comes to ice cream, frozen yogurt, and other chilly treats. (I do admit to having a vanilla ice cream cone with Reese's peanut butter cups about twice a year AS MY DINNER.) You'll also find two delicious avocado recipes, learn about the new so-called "diet slurpee" (speaking of frozen treats!), and read more about whether it really costs more to eat healthfully.

I hope that you'll continue to #moveitorloseit this Spring and Summer, especially in the great outdoors. Please share your adventures hiking, biking, playing sports, running a race, or whatever you do on Twitter and on Facebook--and I'll be sure to do the same. If you send me a photo of you as you #moveitorloseit, I will share it through social media, on my blog, and perhaps even in the ZIED GUIDE newsletter.

Until next time,

About Me

I'm a registered dietitian, author, freelance writer, and speaker based in New York City. I live in Manhattan with my two sons, Spencer, 13, and Eli, 10 and my husband of almost 19 years, Brian. I feel very fortunate to have a career I'm extremely passionate about and to share what I learn with consumers in a variety of ways.

Each and every day, I try to infuse my passion for living a healthful, balanced and enjoyable life into my work. My goal is to feel empowered and to empower others--a working woman with three kids, a new mom, a stay-at-home mom, an empty nester, children, and teens, and families--to take steps to create their own nutritious and active lives.

Through my books, articles, blogs, television and video segments, print and online interviews, speaking engagements and spokesperson work, my goal has always been to translate information garnered from often times confusing scientific studies on food, nutrition, diet, fitness and health into practical, real world solutions consumers can apply and integrate into their own lives. I constantly read and stay in the loop about topics that resonate with consumers, and do my best to provide accurate, science-based information that makes sense so that consumers feel empowered to then take action to better their food and fitness habits to feel physically and mentally fit and optimize their health.
