Celebrate West Park at the 6th Annual Hooley on Kamm's Corners™ Tomorrow, May 9!

West Park's annual homecoming celebration starts at noon tomorrow, May 9, and continues to 8 p.m. on Lorain Avenue between Rocky River Drive and West 165th Street. Starting at 5 a.m. that portion of Lorain Avenue will be closed to traffic. "Hooley" is Irish slang for party or celebration. This one started as a celebration of the new streetscape installed six years ago. Now, The Hooley™ has become an iconicday in West Park of live music, festival food, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

Invite your friends and family to eat, drink, mingle, and enjoy! Once again, there is no charge to enter the area of The Hooley™, thanks to our generous sponsors, including the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. Special thanks to the City of Cleveland and Councilman Marty Keane for their support.

Giveaways and Goodies

Purchase unique goods and pick up interesting information from the almost 60 booths lining each side of Lorain Avenue. Stop by our information booth (in front of Smedley's) to purchase this year's souvenir Hooley™ t-shirt for only $10. Buy two or more t-shirts, and receive a free tote bag while supplies last. Long-sleeved souvenir t-sheets from last year are available for purchase at $10 each, too. It's a good idea to bring a tote bag with you for ease in carrying your many finds and purchases.

Artist Alley

New this year, Cleveland Bazaar is hosting a juried handmade arts and crafts show on West 168th Street, sponsored by First Federal of Lakewood.
A tote bag will come in handy for your purchases of unique items from 30 artists, being offered at various price levels. These include accessories for people and pets, handmade apparel, beach glass jewelry, toys, greeting cards, home decor, timepieces, stained glass, and more!

Live Performances on Two Stages

The main stage at Rocky River Drive faces east and features a mix of Celtic music and rock-n-roll. The  Pipes and Drums of the Cleveland Police will help with opening ceremonies at noon. Here's the line-up in order of appearance after the opening: The Sunrise Jones; The Donegal Doggs; Cleveland Firefighters Memorial Pipes and Drums; The Donegal Doggs (return); Mary's Lane; and  Cats on Holiday.

The family stage at West 165th Street, sponsored by Dollar Bank, faces west and provides entertainment for the younger crowd. Irish dancers from four schools of dance will perform, each showcasing its own distinctive style, with some wearing colorful dancing costumes and ringlet wigs. Also on stage will be the St. Joseph Academy Chorale, Newton D. Baker School of the Arts, Taylor's Troupe from Gunning Park Rec Center, Perlas Del Caribe Dance Crew, and the All American Karate Studio. Enjoy the West Side Irish American Club Pipe Band, followed by DJ McNab, who will take over with interactive audience fun from 6 to 8 p.m. See the full schedule on the poster, here

Youth Center

On the north side of Lorain Avenue near the Family Stage at West 165th Street will be the Youth Center, sponsored by Neighborhood Family Practice with engaging activities run by the West Park YMCA. Nearby, a bounce house and and 30-foot-tall fire truck slide will add to the fun. Tips

Leave your car at home, but bring your family and friends to join the fun! Last year, an estimated 35,000 people visited! Here are a few tips:

  • Parking will be at a premium. Visitors are encouraged to walk or take public transportation to the event. The West Side Shuffle will be picking up in West Park, Lakewood, and Ohio City. Call 216-673-4222 to schedule a pick-up time. See them on Facebook, too.
  • Fairview Hospital, a sponsor of this event, has agreed to open their surface lots on Lorain Avenue to visitors for the day at no charge. These lots are on both sides of Lorain Avenue, west of Charter One Bank and Kamms Plaza.
  • Parking at Kamms Plaza is reserved for patrons of their stores. Please do not park there if you are attending The Hooley™. Your car may be towed.
