ILQ Fall 2017 - Message from the Editor

Dear ILS Members and Colleagues:
 
We invite you to submit your topics for articles to be included in the Fall 2017 International Law Quarterly, which will focus on international dispute resolution
 
Feature Articles should be 8-10 pages, double-spaced, and must conform with the ILQ's Style Guide (which we can send to you if you're interested in submitting an article).
 
The Fall 2017 ILQ will have between 10-12 Feature Articles, so please send us your proposed topic so that we can ensure that there is no duplication.
 
Deadline for articles is Friday, 18 August.
 
We look forward to receiving your proposed topics.

International Law Reviewers Needed

The International Law Section needs your help to read and review chapters in its new publication, "International Law Handbook and Desk Reference."  There are 20 chapters, each in need of reviewers. Time commitment is expected to range from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the length of the chapter.  If you'd like to volunteer to review a chapter or want more information, contact editor, Pamella Seay, p-seay@usa.net.  Please include your specific practice area of interest. CLE Credit may be available. 


ILS Seminar in Moscow, Russia

The Florida Bar International Law Section, together with Moscow International University of Foreign Relations (MGIMMO) held a legal seminar in Moscow in June 27, 2017, focusing on American-Russian Business and Investment topics, dedicated to furthering US-Russian business relations for mutual economic benefit, despite political disagreements.  

The event was a great success, with a total attendance of about 190 participants, including 152 attendees connected via YouTube. T he 5-hour long seminar was video-taped, and the video will be shared soon . Photos will also be available soon.  Our social/cultural activities of the program were outstanding, including:
  • a speaker's dinner at the famous "Cafe Pushkin"
  • a gourmet lunch (Russian cuisine) at  MGIMMO
  • a night at the Nikulin Circus
  • viewing of "Carmen" (by Bizet) at the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre
  • viewing of traditional "Kostrama Russian Dances"
The ILS congratulates Lucius Smejda who organized the seminar.

Portuguese Arbitration Review Publishes Ava Borrasso Article on International Litigation
 
Young Arbitration Review published Ava J. Borrasso's article Significant Developments in International Litigation By Way of 28 USC § 1782 in the Spring 2017 issue.  The review relies on the contributions of international practitioners and is published quarterly.  The article appears in Edition 25 and is available at www.yar.com.pt/review.html

Jennifer Diaz of Diaz Trade Law, P.A. moderated the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT-South Florida) event: The Making of Global Cities: Can Miami Follow a Bold Strategy? 

Diaz Trade Law is also excited to welcome Denise Called as their newest associate. Denise Called is an Associate Attorney with Diaz Trade Law, P.A. where she practices Customs and International Trade law. 



 
Peter Quinter Organizes Port of Miami Tour as Part of ABA Section of International Law 2017 Fall Conference

Peter Quinter, shareholder in GrayRobinson's Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices, chair of the firm's Customs and International Trade Law practice group and member of the planning committee for the ABA's Section of International Law ("Section") 2017 Fall Conference, organized the "Tour of the Port of Miami" portion of the conference on October 24, 2017. The behind-the-scenes tour will include a presentation of the port's operations and activities of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers.

Will the push or pull of nationalist sentiments affect where and how businesses resolve cross-border disputes? Might the relationship between national courts and arbitral tribunals shift?
