 Life at Abilene First
Abilene First Church of the Nazarene                                 January 2018
From Pastor Dave
Let us become the outworking of God's Love...
1 John 3:16-18 ...  16   "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."
Love is the mark by which each and every follower of Christ should be identified by. Jesus said in John 13:35; " By this (the Love that we share) everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. "  Church, the world is watching and believe it or not, they are waiting.  Chew on that for a minute...the world around us is actually "watching and waiting" on something...that something is you and I sharing the love of God.  We have been commissioned by the Father himself to go into all the world.
Church, what are we waiting for?  We have a city that needs taken!  I don't know about you but we need to get up and get going.  Here are questions that we (God and myself) need to start unpacking to you the church so we can process it and then start making things happening in Abilene and beyond.  What would happen if we literally followed God's will for this church?  What would happen if we prayed more?  What would happen if stepped away from our agendas?  What would happen if we quit looking at what every other ministry in Abilene is doing and started looking at what God wants us to do?  What if we started really, and I mean really, started loving each other?  What would happen if we became more faithful in attending worship?  What would happen if we really started worshipping?  What would happen if we faithfully attended Life Groups and Sunday School?  What would happen if we started worrying less about everyone's business and started worrying more about the "business of God"?  What would happen if we decided to "really" become missional?  What if we started making more relationships intentional?  What would happen if we started changing seats just to start meeting more folks within our congregation?  What would happen if everyone became a true "tither"?  What would happen if everyone committed to doing something within the ministries of the church (Sunday worship attendance excluded)?  What would happen if we spent more time in the Word?  What would happen if we started mentoring all new believers?  What would happen if we let God out of the box that we stuffed Him in with "how we think things should be done"?  What would happen if we put off old thoughts for new thoughts, and old traditions for new traditions?  What would happen if we did whatever was needed to win new souls for Christ?  What would happen if we stopped making excuses for why we can't be at church or participate in ministry and started being more of a part?  What would happen if we let apathy die?  What would happen if we started praying bolder prayers?  What would happen if we had the "Isaiah attitude" when God asked something of us and we respond with "Here I am Lord, send me"?
WOW, you say, "that is a lot to chew on Pastor Dave" ...I say "Yes, it is". Some of those questions might sting you a little, but if it stings then it must be an area that you need to give to the Lord. The Lord threw all those questions at me throughout my recent 2-month sabbatical.  You're lucky we will unpack it all together over the course of 2018 as we use all those questions to solidify a vision here at FCN.  As I am typing this I have a Sunday School book face down on my desk and the heading reads... " OUR GOAL: CHRISTLIKE LIVING-NOT JUST TALK".   I'm with the book!  "Let's quit talking and start doing". Incarnational Ministry, let's make it a lifestyle.
Do all that you can to attend worship on Sunday, January 7 as I will be preaching about "VISION". I implore you to not start 2018 behind by missing the vision intro to 2018.  Be here to catch the vision.  Let me close with this prayer for our church as we embark on journey like never before.
Pray this with me for our church and future.

"Thank you, Lord, that we are the Church.  We firmly stand as "the called-out ones".  Jesus, You said, "Upon this rock have I built my Church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it."  Today we take our stand, rooted and established in Christ's authority and power.  We will not bow down to the darkness, but the darkness will bow down to us because we're filled with the indwelling power of Your Holy Spirit.  Today we ask You to breathe life into areas that are sick and dying.  Like Ezekiel, bring dry bones back to life we pray.  We praise you, Lord for fanning the flame deep in our hearts.  May we never return to complacency or lose You as our first love.  Thank you for fortifying Your people to establish all you've dreamed for the city of Abilene, breathing hope as we align our will with Yours.  We pray for increases of Your power and love to accomplish the mission and vision You have set forth in our hearts. Keep our eyes fixed on You as we link arms together to establish your kingdom.
Lifting you and Loving you,

New Year's Holiday Schedule

Man Camp
The first annual district "Man Camp" will be held at Camp Arrowhead Friday, February 23-Sunday, February 25.

Men are invited to join together for an awesome weekend of fellowship and spiritual renewal.  Men gathering for the purpose of seeking all of God and connecting with each other can be one of the most powerful tools God can use in our churches and communities.  We have a lot in common as men and getting closer together is the key.

Our speaker, Dr. Keith Newman, SNU President, will challenge and encourage our me to give their whole lives to God so they can make that difference in their families, their churches, and their communities.  Worship services will be our top priority-Jairo Maldonado and worship team will be leading us in celebration and worship.

FOOD - Men love to eat good food-and we'll have lots of it!  BBQ ribs, chicken and sausage with all the fixin's, grilled burgers and fries-full on breakfast, Gourmet Nacho and S'mores bar after the evening services.

MAN CAVE - will be open 24/7 with late-night sports movies, all the coffee you want - snacks - sports tv and more.  A great place to hang out.

PURPOSE - This weekend camp is designed for men only.  The most important agenda of the camp is men meeting God.  Men can hang out, hit trails, sleep, go into town, or participate in horseshoe and ping pong tournaments, volleyball, basketball, archery and golf.

It's going to be a defining moment for our District Men's Ministry and our churches.  We're looking forward to a great time of fellowship together-when men gather...things happen!

Men's Basketball
