Business Moves to Warren County for the Sales Tax Rate

Queensbury - Warren County's low sales tax rate just drew a new business to the industrial park.  Mohawk Werks is relocating from Oneida County because of the rate, said owner Bill Brandt.  His company sells ski trail grooming equipment: big-ticket items that are often picked up at the building. In Oneida County, that means buyers must pay a sales tax rate of 8.75 percent. In Warren County, the rate is 7 percent.

EDC is pleased to have participated in discussions.

Glens Falls, NY - JUST water, the ethically sourced 100% spring water in a paper-based bottle, is now available on the University of Colorado (CU) campus in Boulder, through a partnership with New Age Beverages. University of Colorado advocates for students to choose reusable bottles, mugs, bags and other items instead of single-use plastics, and has long considered completely banning plastic water bottles. Given its focus on environmental conservation and sustainability, CU students are actively seeking out better alternatives to plastic - now they have JUST water.

JUST Water Launches Six-Pack with Stop & Shop

JUST water was launched in single bottles late 2015. Based on strong uptake by consumers resulting in earlier than anticipated demand for multi-pack purchases, JUST was able to respond quickly by introducing a six-pack. The new six-pack contains the same 16.9-ounce JUST water bottles, in a JUST signature light blue recyclable case, and retails at Stop & Shop for $6.29.

SCHENECTADY - The Golub family on Wednesday downplayed rumors that Price Chopper could soon be sold to Albertsons Companies Inc.

"I don't comment on stuff like that," said Golub Corp. Chairman Neil Golub, after an event at miSci to honor the Golub family for years of generous contributions to the museum.

A Master Trail Builder; A Vision For North Creek

To really understand this story, you have to bear in mind two distinctive things about North Creek.

One, it butts up against the mountains much tighter than most Adirondack communities. Start on the path that runs beside Town Hall (within sight of the Hudson), and within minutes you're climbing steeply up Gore Mountain, entering one of the largest wilderness complexes in the Park.

Two - and this negates the first advantage - North Creek is one of the few Adirondack hamlets bypassed by a state highway. Instead of following the main street, the state cut Route 28 between the town and the mountain, in much the same way that highway builders cut off many of our finest cities from their river or ocean fronts. (Think Albany or Boston).

The result: the Adirondack town that should have perhaps the easiest access to recreation finds itself physically and psychologically marooned.

But that's changing, thanks more than anything else to the vision of one man.
