~EASTER~
CELEBRATING OUR ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND OUR REASON FOR BROADCASTING THE JESUS STORY...
...HE IS RISEN AS HE SAID!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MEET A MEMBER OF
OUR FAITHFUL STAFF
FEZA...
...was a teenager washing dishes and babysitting in 1994 when we asked her to try learning broadcasting at Radio Kahuzi.
Feza has developed into one of the best "On Live" reporter / journalists in the DRC. Most of her work is in Christian programming; however, she is able to take over in an instant on the programming side that covers everyday life in Congo: local, regional, and world news; sports, women's issues; health education regarding malaria, cholera, and many other subjects. Feza is fluent in three languages, which she uses on Radio Kahuzi.
While working at Radio Kahuzi, Feza, completed her secondary education studies and passed the National State Exams, receiving her diploma. She also completed evening university studies and received a BA in Business
Management.
During the first invasion in 1996, the Mutangi family: Pastor Enoci Paul, (now deceased), Feza, Samuel, Amisi, and Kalangwa fled in different directions with most of the population of Bukavu on foot for over 100 to 500 miles through the jungle to safe places, escaping with only the clothes on their backs. They have suffered much in their service for Christ. The rest of their story will be told in Heaven.
Feza with husband Ndatabaye Musole Primo; and three children.
A NOTE FROM RICHARD
Kathy and I are thankful for your commitment to the ongoing outreach of Radio Kahuzi and the Lord's work in Central
Africa. He will certainly multiply our partnership to His Glory!
This week a friend from Maniema Province (in the Congo Jungle Basin) came with a report. He saw young listeners attaching their Galcom solar radios onto their bicycle with the antenna looped to form a perfect signal receptor. As they travel around the villages they are sharing Radio Kahuzi's music and programs wherever they go! This is very encouraging!
DR Congo is as large as the United States east of the Mississippi! There is a thousand miles of jungle between Bukavu on the E
astern
border with Rwanda and Kinshasa, the Capital of DRC on the west. No wonder the eastern half is difficult to be administered by the government, being so far away. This map shows eleven DRC Provinces--now there are twenty six.
[Boat and aircraft are sometimes the only ways to easily get around. Most of the region's inhabitants still live in small villages in the jungle, mountains, or savanna, although many have moved to cities like Kisangani, Kindu, Bunia, & Mbandaka. --From the web]
We are receiving 5 over 5 (perfect) signal reports from a
ll directions...distant cities like Kindu to the West, as well as from a friend in Bujumbura, Burundi, (right below Rwanda) where Kathy was born. And, yes, we broadcast every day...rain or shine!
Without your faithful support none of this outreach would be possible. Thank you.
Keep Looking Up!
Richard
Update from Kathy
We had a wonderful blessing sharing with our neighbor and her daughter who was visiting here from Europe. I have been sharing our Savior's Gospel with the Mother now in her 90s over these past 20 years.
Recently, the family had their Catholic priest come to deliver her last rites, as they were sure she would die of pneumonia.
However, at an "Appointed Time" we walked down to visit and prayed with them for her recovery, and she did recover. Even before this event her daughter invited us many times to visit and spiritually counsel her mother and her brother; which we did.
Soon, she had to go back to Europe, and she and her mother asked us to lead them in the sinner's prayer, which the daughter repeated in understandable French and they both prayed to confess Christ as Lord and Savior! Praise the Lord, after all these years of witness God's word has not returned void!
"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55: 11.
Another Victory!
Thank you for praying for Susan. She is the Congolese Christian who built our studio on her property.
We shared with you several years ago that her German husband was murdered by a militia group wanting to take control of his plantation outside of Bukavu to establish a camp from which to launch attacks. Recently, they caught another of the assassins. He was
the one who physically ambushed and took her husband from his truck at the
bridge to his plantation. The group mortally beat him with
clubs and
machetes
Susan's life has been under threat since that time as she has been
at
tempting to bring the assassins to justice over the past two years. The emotional struggle has been taking its toll, but today she came to share with us that she has been
reading a booklet that stated many of the things that we were also sharing with her regarding her need to allow the Holy Spirit control
of her response to all this mess, and stop trying to win
the fight in the flesh. That is a real answer to prayer for us,
as she verbalized most of the message from the book. We pray she will continue
on in the same direction. We also shared a note and Scripture we received from Barbara
last night, that paralleled the same theme.
Praise the LORD for another spiritual victory!
Keep Looking Up!
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Friends of BESI / Radio Kahuzi,
As we entered BESI's 31st year of ministry in March and see Radio Kahuzi's 25th year of broadcasting approaching in December, we can look back now and review the faithfulness of our Lord through the journey.
As we look ahead and plan for the future of our ministry in Congo and in Rwanda we realize we will need to attract a new generation of supporters. This requires our complete dependence on the Holy Spirit for wisdom. We can see the great possibilities on both sides of the border, but these possibilities can only become a reality through prayer and investment by the followers of Christ.
Have you ever felt that you were taking one step forward and two steps backward? For the past six months this is what Rich and Kathy have been experiencing in a literal way. Rich has had to travel on foot in rain or shine as both vehicles came to a full stop about the same time. Finding an honest, knowledgable mechanic in Congo has been through costly trial and error and still not found. Finding the correct parts requires a mechanic in another country scouring through a junkyard...seems impossible!
Will you join us in daily prayer for:
* Vehicle repairs
* Final move of studio
* Lacking monthly support of $2,500
We do not doubt that our God is able to complete that which He has begun in us 31 years ago, but we also realize it is a partnership between Him, us and the Body of Christ working together. None of us can serve Him alone!
"But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love they name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield." Ps 5: 11, 12.
GOD THROWS HIS ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AROUND THE SINNER!
"...HE HATH COVERED ME WITH THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS..."
Together, let us rejoice this Easter Season in His Victorious Resurrection.
Keep Looking Up!
Harold D. Smith, President
