Dear St. George's Family,
All those prayers for pleasant summer weather have most definitely been answered. It's been years since we've entered July without a single 100 degree day. For this I am very grateful, especially because I know those triple digit days will be here soon... but nevertheless I have been enjoying these pleasant days, and I hope you have too.
I imagine many of you are enjoying time with family and friends on various vacations and outings. The summer is definitely a great time to get away and relax. Though in the midst of these travels and such, I want to encourage everyone to stay connected to St. George's. When you are able, attend
Sunday services and especially mark your calendar for the Annual Neighborhood Picnic on July 13th!
I pray you have a pleasant and enjoyable summer. May you be blessed in your endeavors, and safe in your travels. God bless!

Summer Kidsword
Summer vacation is here! Each year we give our KidsWord teachers a vacation as well and invite parishioners to teach a KidsWord class or two. All it requires is a desire to get to know our wonderful Kindergarten-5th graders. Lesson plans can be provided, or you can plan your own lesson. Anything goes: music, outdoor activities, games, storytelling.... Please contact Jan Phillips at janwp22770@aol.com if you are interested or have questions. *Those who work with our children must have participated in the Safeguarding God's Children training.

Wednesday Weavings
 The Wednesday night adult discussion group, known as Wednesday Weavings, meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in different homes. We share a simple meal, have a short time of centering prayer, and discuss a selected reading for the evening. Readings come from Weavings: A Journal of the Christian Spiritual Life and are circulated in advance.
Because we discuss a different reading each time, feel free to come any Wednesday you can. Please bring a contribution for the salad bar meal (for example, fruit, vegetable, or crunchy toppings). This month, the gatherings are on July 2nd at Frances and John Rickard's home, and on July 16th at a home to be determined.
David McGhee has set up a website on Rallyhood.com that provides a central source of information for the group, including meeting dates and an electronic copy of the upcoming reading. If you would like to join the Rallyhood site (this is completely optional), please e-mail David at dmcghee@austin.rr.com. Printed copies of the reading will also be available at church the Sunday before the group gathers on Wednesday.

Summer Choir Schedule
St. George's choir does not meet during the month of July. Regular Tuesday evening choir rehearsal will resume on August 26th at 7pm.

Our next comfort bag collection and assembly will be Sunday, July 20th after church, with blessing and delivery tentatively for July 27th. We continue to hear comments from the visiting nurses that the bags are indeed a comfort to these traumatized women. In May we delivered 45 bags, so this seems like a reasonable target for the collection in July. We certainly need people willing to sew the bags. The pattern is available in the narthex (or
 contact Sarah Campbell to get an emailed version.)
The content list is here. To prevent duplicates and not having enough of something else, we are proposing that people volunteer to be shoppers and agree to buy specific items. However, if the spirit moves someone while out shopping, by all means go ahead and buy. We can always stockpile for future collections. Also, if anyone has any corporate sponsor connections, for someone who might be willing to provide travel-sized items, for example, or sell them at a discount, please let us know. We would love for you to follow up on this.
We have money available in the outreach fund for shoppers, and some fabric is also available--just ask one of us.

Telling Our Stories

This is a monthly publication that provides space for the people of St. George's to get to know each other better and, in turn, to know God through one another. If you don't use email and would like a print copy, please contact the church office.

Hallelujah Hour
Join us for our monthly community fellowship hour!
Hallelujah Hour is held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We have returned to the Draught House Pub & Brewery (4112 Medical Pkwy #100, 78756). So mark your calendars for Thursday, July 17th at 5:00 pm!

Christopher House Baskets
 While you're on vacation this summer, please think to bring your unused hotel soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions back with you to St. George's. Every Sunday, we take donations of such products and create beautiful welcome baskets for new Christopher House patients and their family members. A little soap can go a long way in making someone's (often sudden) transition to hospice care a little easier.

Discovery Class:
Adult Preparation for Baptism,
Confirmation, & Reception
Beginning on Sunday, August 3rd from 9:15-10:15 am
 Father Kevin will teachall adults that seek to be baptized, confirmed, or received into the Episcopal Church. This four week course will lead those interested in the polity, history, theology, and biblical interpretation of the Episcopal Church; with a special emphasis on St. George's. All are welcome to attend, even if you are undecided about joining St. George's Episcopal Church. The class is in preparation for Bishop Jeff Fisher's presence with us on Sunday, September 7th. Blessing of the Animals
Calling all animal lovers!
 We have an exciting opportunity on the horizon and your help is needed! St. George's is partnering with Emancipet to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with a Blessing of the Animals and Community Fair on Saturday, October 4th. This event will be hosted on our campus and volunteers are needed to contact community organizations, coordinate with vendors and to help welcome people and their pets the day of the event. An organizational meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 10th,following
the 10:30 worship service.

Spirit Poetry
Here they come! one by one, artists-poets-musicians-singers-songwriters-storytellers all-with abundance. The Spirit Poetry group meets monthly, based in Kleberg Hall with Austin as its venue, St. George & St. Hildegard as their patron saints.
A city calls not for uniformity but calls: A profound unity in difference, in other words; a blending, stewing, mixing of ideas, people, cultures, motives, means of communication, movement and gatherings make up a city. How do we find this spirit heart outside of our own limiting viewpoints, no matter how progressive, historic, conservative, devout, educated we might be at any given point in time? First, owning our own limitations and need of each other. Second, take time to listen, learn and let go of previous perceptions or the new viewpoint can not be born. July Events
Summer Fun at St. George's School is happening all around. From our youngest of children to the pre-k graduates, all are involved in fun activities to spice up their summer. The children love the water play and painting experiences as you can see.
We still have room if you would like to register for a summer session. The two week sessions cost $385 for M-F, 8:30-3:30. We also have two day or three day options. Please call for details at 512-452-6063. Ask for Erin or Jerri and we would be happy to assist you.
