KCA Hosts Senator Mitch McConnell
On Tuesday, October 26, the KCA had the honor of hosting
Senator Mitch McConnell
for a town hall meeting at White Farms (Tim and Amy White) in Lexington. A crowded barn of KY cattlemen and producers discussed with McConnell their questions and concerns on the current situation in the cattle markets.
McConnell's insight provided a fresh take on the market instability. Read more about his visit in the December issue of Cow Country News.

Complete Producer Survey for Chance to Win a YETI Cooler
Beef producers all across the country, from every segment
of the industry, are being encouraged to participate in a survey that will help establish a benchmark and course for the beef industry in 2017 and beyond. The Producer Survey of the checkoff-funded 2016 National Beef Quality Audit (NBQA) will collect producer information and opinions, which will be added to the audit's traditional production research, to form an in-depth look at where the industry stands and what its successes and shortcomings are.
Upon completing the survey, participants can choose to leave their contact information to be entered for a chance at winning a YETI® Tundra 75 Marine Cooler. For more information, contact Jesse Fulton at
jfulton@beef.org, or
303-850-3461. Final results of the 2016 NBQA will be released in July 2017.

Check Your Mail for Annual Cattle Survey
The U.S Department of Agriculture's National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS) will begin mailing out the Annual Cattle Survey in mid-December. The survey inventories all beef and dairy cattle, calf crop and cattle on feed.
"Having an accurate inventory report is critical during this period of lower prices to better understand the cattle market," said David Knopf, director of the NASS Eastern Mountain Regional Office in Kentucky. "Each producer response is important for achieving factual counts."
Nearly 1,300 Kentucky farmers will be surveyed. Data collection begins Jan. 1, 2017, and continues through Jan. 12. The results will be published in the Cattle Report due out Jan. 31, 2017.
