Ambassador Spotlight

Before becoming a Donate Life Ambassador, Kevin Padilla has dedicated hundreds of hours, since 2007, to the Donate Life Run/Walk as the Food Coordinator. Over the years Kevin and his Food Committee members have served tens of thousands of hot dogs to Donate Life Run/Walk participants to ensure no one goes home hungry. Together with Chris Hostert, Kevin also had a hand in creating the remodeled Circle of Life Garden as a tribute to the thousands of donor family members who come to the Run/Walk each year. Kevin chose to be trained as a Donate Life Ambassador in October of 2011 and has done a great job as an Ambassador to Cities. When Kevin isn't securing proclamations or scheduling Donate Life presentations for his Rotary Club, he is bringing the Donate Life message to high school students in the Interact service club. Each year, over fifty Rotarians and Interact club members participate in the Donate Life Run/Walk as volunteers. We thank Kevin for his dedication and support of our life-saving mission, especially the endless time and effort he puts in making the Donate Life Run/Walk a success each year.

Greetings!

Congratulations on a successful Donate Life Month! We are so proud of all the Donate Life activities that occurred in the month of April.

We wanted to take the opportunity to highlight some of the amazing events that were only made possible because of Ambassadors like you. As you look over these captured moments please note we are very appreciative of everyone's time, effort and dedication. You are all making a difference in the community and it really shows.

As we approach the summer months we want to continue on this path of success and look forward to your continued journey with us as we inspire the community to Donate Life.

Ambassadors to Cities

The Ambassadors to Cities were quite busy in the month of April as they accepted 80 DMV/Donate Life California Month proclamations.

In addition, the quality of the relationships established by Ambassadors to Cities was demonstrated by the number of civic leaders that joined us at the 10th Annual Donate Life Run/Walk.

Among the many tabling events that took place throughout the month of April, one that stands out is Donate Life Day with Vons, which as a true community partner allowed us to have a Donate Life table at 17 Vons stores.

To kick off the month of May, we participated in Brooke's Big Heart Golf Tournament. A full slate of 144 golfers and 250 attendees at the evening banquet and silent auction showed their support for Brooke and Donate Life. The golf tournament raised about $40,000, some of which will be used towards Brooke's medical expenses; the remainder of the proceeds will be donated to Brooke's Big Heart and OneLegacy. The event was a tremendous success, see pictures here; we look forward to this becoming an annual event.

Ambassadors to DMV

To recognize our national "20 Million in 2012" campaign, the accomplishment of reaching nine million designated donors on the Donate Life California registry, and April's DMV/Donate Life California Month, we celebrated Donate Life Day in four DMV Field Offices randomly chosen to host events.

The Donate Life Day celebrations at the Lincoln Park, Compton and Inglewood DMVs brought the Donate Life spirit to the DMV staff.

Inglewood Mayor James Butts, DMV Manager Andra Toldson, and DMV Regional Manager Velma Edmond

Inglewood Mayor James Butts, DMV Manager Andra Toldson, and DMV Regional Manager Velma Edmond were able to join us for Donate Life Day at the Inglewood DMV Field Office, where a DMV/Donate Life California Month proclamation was presented to the DMV staff.

We are looking forward to the last celebration in June at the Montebello DMV Field Office.

Ambassadors to High Schools

The Disneyland Resort Scholarship Program proudly awarded Donate Life Ambassador Hannah Choe and nine other high schools students with $5,000 scholarships. Hannah was the first Asian American high school student to be trained as a Donate Life Ambassador; she promptly founded the Donate Life Club at Sunny Hills High School in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District

.

Hannah has dedicated over four hundred hours of service to Donate Life, and with the help of her club members she has brought the Donate Life message and the legacy of her sister Erin with her in all of her community outreach. We are so proud of Hannah and honored to have her as a Donate Life Ambassador. We wish her the best as she attends college next year!

Ambassadors to Hospitals

Thank you to the Donation Development Coordinators (DDCs) and Ambassadors to Hospitals for a successful Donate Life Month with OneLegacy's partner hospitals. In the month of April, 39 Ambassadors to Hospitals participated in 25 reported activities/events within the hospitals.

The Donate Life message and the inspirational stories of our Ambassadors were shared with our hospital partners at a golf tournament, flag raising ceremonies, tables and a new hire orientation.

DDC Lisa Pedral praised Donate Life Ambassador Bernadette Cope's speech at the Mission Hospital Donor Council Golf Tournament, "She was an excellent choice for this event. She was the highlight of the lunch as a donor mother from Mission Hospital."

Ambassadors to Hospitals continue to do an amazing job sharing their stories, and as Donate Life Ambassador Regina Perez mentioned, "It helps me deal with my loss and yet provide information to the nurses on how to treat families."

Thank you to everyone for a great month and we look forward to the high activity throughout the rest of the year.

Donate Life Run/Walk

We would like to express our gratitude to the Donate Life Run/Walk Committee and volunteers for another successful year!

The 10th Annual Donate Life Run/Walk had over 11,000 participants, a performance by Scott MacIntrye and special appearances by Phillip Palmer and David Eckstein.

The support of civic leaders and community partners was a great bonus to the event, along with the floragraph presentations and traditional dove release.

A special thank you to sponsors Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, Moss-Adams LLP, Don-A-Vee Chrysler Jeep, St. Joseph Hospital, Vons, W.L. Butler Construction, Inc., OneLegacy and many others; without their generous support this event would not be possible.

We also recognize the extraordinary leadership of Craig and Kathleen Hostert, whose vision has been realized with the largest organ and tissue donation event in the world.

Enjoy the images, video and articles below documenting the 10th Annual Donate Life Run/Walk.

Transplant Games of America

Join Team SoCal for the Transplant Games of America  in Grand Rapids, Michigan July 28-31 2012

More than just an athletic event, the Transplant Games of America (TGA) is a celebration for everyone connected to organ donation and transplantation. Donor families, living donors, transplant recipients and many others who have been impacted by organ donation will join the Grand Rapids community in "Celebrating the Gift of Life."

The TGA is a festival-style event for athletes who have undergone life-saving transplant surgery or who are living donors. More than 1,300 athletes from every corner of the USA are expected to attend this year.

The games will include awe-inspiring opening and closing ceremonies and a host of other activities for athletes and fans alike.

Any organ or bone marrow transplant recipient or living donor who is at least nine months out from transplant or donation may participate. Donor families will have the opportunity to meet other donor families and transplant recipients, and can participate in a variety of events centered on the moving and heartfelt act of giving the "gift of life."

To join Team SoCal for an amazing experience in Grand Rapids, contact Debbie Morgan or Tammy Ruznak by sending an email to teamsocaltga@gmail.com.
